In the Church of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit raises up spiritual shepherds and elders to care for the flock (Acts 20:28). When Paul writes to the church at Philippi, he writes, “To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons.”
As Senior Pastor, I work closely with our 11 elders and am thankful to God for their commitment to Christ, His Word, and His people. One of the qualifications for an elder is that he must be “able to teach” (1 Timothy 3:2). So our elders at Calvary teach the Word of God in different settings. This Sunday morning, one of our elders, Dr. Timothy Brown, is preaching. He serves as a professor at Southern Evangelical Seminary and leads one of our Adult Life Groups at Calvary. Formerly he served as a pastor, and he brings his pastoral wisdom, theological acumen, and love for the Word of God to us.
“Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the Word of God, consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith” (Hebrews 13:7).
