Pricing for Period A-169 Information

Mainstream:

The live price in BC for period A-169 (marketing’s from April 11 – June 5, 2021 inclusive) has been set by the Board at $1.950 per kilogram live weight. This represents an increase of $0.1380 from the previous period.
Linkage
The price linkage calculations done by Serecon for period A-169 reflect the live price of $1.950 per kilogram live weight. The calculations indicate a cost recovery parity between the two commodities of 98.42% will be achieved at the following prices:
Live Chicken: $1.950/kg
Hatching Eggs: $6.8549/dozen
Day old chicks: $0.9021/chick
Organic:
The live price for certified organic chicken for period A-169 has been set by the Board at $3.94 per kilogram live weight which represents an increase from the previous period of $0.11 per kilogram.

Silkies:
This is the first period of the two-period pricing block (A-169/A-170) for Silkie chicken. The price for A-169 is set at $4.46 per kilogram live weight, which represents a $0.20/kg increase from the previous period.

Taiwanese:
This is the first period of the two-period pricing block (A-169/A-170) for TC chicken. The results in the table below where “green” indicates an increase and “red” indicates a decrease from the previous period.

Allocation for Period A-170
Period A-170 (June 6 through July 31,2021) allocation update:

In the March 26, 2021 edition of the BCCMB newsletter we presented the allocation data for period A-170.

BCCMB staff have now completed the A-170 allocation numbers. Pro-rata allotments to BC mainstream chicken growers will be at 102.71% pro rata.
Dr. Keith Bramwell from Jamesway will joined this week by Dr. Stewart Ritchie, the founder of Platinum Brooding® and a worldwide expert on the best practices for producing and raising high quality chicks.

Dr. Ritchie will discuss the impact that chick vitality has on assessing flocks and how to help your hatchery develop Platinum Chicks® every time. The discussion will be very interesting and you owe it to your flocks to tune in.

Wednesday, April 14 - 8 a.m. PST
Farmer Needed for Collaboration with BC Agriculture in the Classroom.

We are looking for a BC chicken grower to join us (virtually) in a cook along live video with BC Agriculture in the Classroom (BCAIC) and We Heart Local BC. BCAIC Chef Trevor Randle will be leading a live demonstration. Here are the requirements:
• Provide a brief bio and image to be used in promotion
• Participate in a short 15-20 minute practice session to test technical aspects of Zoom (date/time TBD)
• Participate in the live event May 8 9am - 10:30 pm
During Webinar:
• You will cook along with Chef Randle, preparing the main dish and dessert on screen.
• You will provide a short verbal introduction about you and your farm.
• You will answer some questions that Chef Randle asks about chicken farming (we determine these questions ahead of time)

Period A-171 (August 1 – September 25 2021)
CFC Sets Allocation Thursday May 6, 2021
Deadline to submit quota transfer papers: Thursday April 22, 2021
Deadline to submit allocation paperwork: Tuesday May 4, 2021 at NOON
Quota Expansion
Growers who have not gotten the entirety of the 20% quota Increase must provide barn space by JULY 5th, 2021 at NOON. Insufficient space will result in forfeiture of any portion of the growth quota
BC Farm Industry Review Board Update
The BC Farm Industry Review Board (BCFIRB) 's March 2021 Summary Report for its Public Accountability and Reporting Project (PARP) is now complete. This report provides a synopsis of the eight reports submitted by B.C.’s agricultural commodity boards and commissions.
News from Chicken Farmers of Canada
Chicken Farmers of Canada need your help for two upcoming projects:
  1. A public relations campaign with a theme of "generations." They are looking for historical photos of chicken farming or photos showing two or more generations of chicken farmers
  2. A pathogen reduction education video series. They are looking for on-farm footage collected by farmers to feature in these agriculture extension videos.
