Getting to Know Sully Macmurphy
Player Name: Sully Macmurphy
College Commitment: Marist College
High School: Providence HS

Graduating Class: 2021

What other schools did you consider?
High Point, Mercer and Utah.
How did the school you chose separate itself from the others you considered?
The coaching staff at Marist really stood out and separated themselves from other staffs I had a chance to meet. The school's academics also played a big role when making my final decision.

How would you describe your recruiting process overall?
A really cool experience that I was fortunate to go through. Being an athlete that is being offered the chance to play in college is allowing me to see my dreams come true.

What was your favorite part of the recruiting process?
School visits were my favorite part. Each program and campus was different in their own unique way and I got to meet a lot of great people during this process.

What opportunities and information assisted you during your recruiting process?
The opportunity to go visit so many schools really put things into perspective with what I wanted out of a school as a whole when keeping lacrosse and academics both in mind.

Did you feel like you had support from the Team 24/7 Staff during your process? If so, how?
Absolutely my whole lacrosse career would not be nearly the same without the Team 24/7 Lacrosse program. All of the coaches have been of great assistance through it all. Coach Flanagan has worked his tail off for all of my teammates who are committed now along with more to come this Summer and next Fall!

What individual or showcase events, if any, did you find the most beneficial during your process?
I only attended a handful of showcases and prospect days throughout my recruiting process. I found that the team events we attended and being proactive when reaching out to coaches before events were the most important part of my recruiting process.

What would you tell younger players or parents to help them prepare for the recruiting process?
Work hard as you can in the years and months leading up to the recruiting process so that when the time comes for you, you can see all that work pay off.
Coach Flanagan on Sully
We have been fortunate to work with Sully since we first started coaching kids in Charlotte. It has been a treat to watch him grow into an outstanding young man and a talented lacrosse player.
Off the field, Sully is one of those kids that you love to be around. He always has a smile on his face and has that unique ability to keep practices loose and fun but knowing when it is time to flip the switch and get serious. His teammates and coaches have always loved him because of his jovial attitude.

On the field, there are two things that have always stood out to me about Sully and they go hand in hand. The first is his work ethic. Whether it was wall ball or speed ladder workouts, Sully has always been a guy that puts in extra work outside of practice to develop his game. He is driven to be great and is always looking for ways to get better. When the time came for him to start lifting weights, he had the same approach.

As we went through the recruiting process with Sully, the most common theme among college coaches was how powerful he is. He has the footwork to run with quicker attackman and is powerful enough to win his matchup when he approaches goal-line extended. He has the ability to drive offensive players off the island and disrupt what they are trying to do. That was really attractive to coaches when they think about how they can use him against bigger attackman at the next level.

I’m extremely proud of Sully for reaching his goal of playing lacrosse at the collegiate level and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him at Marist.
