Background from July 2020:

The City of Monterey is updating Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) rules to integrate new state laws with our City Code. We're taking this opportunity to present concepts to the City Council that goes beyond minimum state requirements in order to:

  • Streamline for ease of use and review
  • Adapt ADU rules to our unique situations in Monterey
  • Expand development standards to reflect community requests

Ideas presented in this survey are in response to multiple inquiries and requests from Monterey residents regarding ADUs. Your feedback can help the City understand community goals and concerns. Please take a minute to answer the following questions in preparation for a City Council Work-session, currently planned for Tuesday, September 1.

Guidance from that meeting will be shared with the Planning Commission for review of proposed code language.

To see an overview of differences between the existing standards, minimum state changes, and proposed expansion of updates, please view the matrix available with this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1t9-nZrF56eoLRoUwV9BvxTFR4Re-EoHy/view?usp=sharing

Deadline for the survey was Monday, August 3rd at 5pm.
