AHAI would like to thank the 140+ Youth, Adult and High School Presidents who joined the round table discussions held over the past week. We are all working hard to ensure there is hockey for our skaters in a safe and responsible way. The input from those meetings will assist in forming any guidance as we all move toward the Fall Season.
As we have seen, news on the virus is ever changing. In that spirit Illinois has added a new document to the Coronavirus response entitled "Actions To Combat a Resurgence of COVID-19". This plan utilizes several layers of mitigation to combat a resurgence of the virus and help prevent spread. To this point it has not been implemented, but it is important to know where things could head and the effect it could have on hockey. Important Announcement from the AHAI High School Committee
In order to be fair to the potential players of high school hockey, the AHAI board voted to remove the linkage between the beginning of any possible high school hockey season and dates created by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). Therefore, the High School division of AHAI will be treated the same as all of our other youth divisions as to the criteria used in the return to play. - Jack Weinberg, AHAI High School Committee Chairman

A Step aHead Set to Launch on August 1st
The A Step aHead partners are excited to announce the 10th year of our program! We are proud of the work that has been done to educate our youth hockey community about sports safety and provide free baseline neurocognitive testing. We look forward to another 10 years of working to keep our athletes safe while they play the game they love.
This year the free baseline testing will be offered from August 1 through November 30, 2020. We will continue to offer the testing at select Athletico clinics. Please click here for additional information.

 Tier II Substitute Choice Application Process for 2020-2021 Season
The Tier II substitute choice application process, 10U through 16U/18U is now open. All applications will be submitted online. The Tier II Committee will have (3) three appeal hearings for those denied a substitute choice. The dates for the appeals are August 13, August 27, and September 9, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.

with your preferred appeal hearing date. The deadline for applying for a substitute choice will be September 15, 2020.

Reminder: USA Hockey Offering Online CEP Clinics
By Jim Clare - AHAI Coach-In-Chief - As has been mentioned many times, we are dealing with some new and challenging scenarios in both our lives and in the hockey world. To help our coaches navigate the CEP process, USA Hockey has restructured their coaching certification requirements for the 2020-2021 season.
USA Hockey is hosting a series of virtual certification clinics for all levels. These clinics are held via Zoom and hosted by several Districts around the country. You are encouraged to attend one of these clinics to achieve your next level certification. The Central District will be hosting some CEP clinics in August, but you may attend clinics hosted by any USA Hockey District (one nice thing about technology). As we get closer to the season, and if the situation allows, AHAI will be hosting some in-person clinics as per our usual structure. Until then, go virtual and get certified! 2020-2021 IHOA & USA Hockey Registration and Seminar Information
This is an update, with the understanding that some of the information is still tentative and subject to change based on unknowns and uncertainties.
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION
This portion of seminars will be conducted virtually. Length of virtual classroom for Levels 2, 3 and 4 will be approximately 3 hours, conducted in one session. Length of virtual classroom for Level 1 will be approximately 6 hours, broken into two parts. Virtual classroom instruction will be held on two consecutive weekday evenings prior to ice times.
REGISTRATION FOR VIRTUAL CLASSROOM
IHOA members (and potential members) will register for the virtual classroom portion of seminars via the USA Hockey website. Virtual classroom sessions that are conducted by IHOA are scheduled to be posted sometime before August 1. There will be zero fee to register for virtual classrooms via USA Hockey. READ MORE>>

IHOA Announced 2020-2021 Officiating Seminar Schedule
The Illinois Hockey Officials' Association (IHOA) is pleased to announce the release of its officiating seminars for the coming season. If you are unsure of the requirements, please go to

QUESTION:
A player gets a 2 minute Minor and 10 minutes Misconduct penalty. How many minutes will they have to serve, 10 or 12?
ANSWER:
If a player receives a Minor and Misconduct penalty he must serve the entire twelve minutes (2+10) consecutively. The additional player his team must place in the box is serving the shorthanded time (not the Minor itself). Since the Minor penalty must be served first (and posted on the penalty clock) the additional player is in the box so their team will have someone available to leave the penalty box and enter the game at the end of the Minor.
If the opposing team scores during the shorthanded Minor penalty time, the Minor is immediately terminated and the Misconduct penalty begins. In other words, the player who received the penalties will be released at the first whistle after ten minutes after the goal.

USA Hockey Cancels Fall Disabled Hockey Events
USA Hockey has announced that it has cancelled a trio of disabled hockey events that were scheduled to take place this fall, including the
USA Hockey Warrior Classic, which was set for Oct. 8-11; the
USA Hockey Sled Classic, presented by the NHL, scheduled for Nov. 19-22; and the
USA Hockey Special Hockey Classic, set for Dec. 4-6. Additionally, the first-ever
Blind Hockey Classic will not be staged this year; however, it is anticipated to return to the calendar of events for the 2021-2022 season.
