A Letter from the Lower School Headmaster

Dear Lower School Families,
Time seems to be moving along with a quickened pace and end-of-year thoughts are on all of our minds. We wish we were all together, and we hope to provide some end-of-year closure for all our students, teachers, and families.

End-of-Year Timeline
- Monday, May 18th: Packets will contain some new content as well as an element of review.
- Monday, May 25th: Memorial Day Holiday
- Tuesday, May 26th: Packets will contain mainly enrichment activities and ideas for summer activities.
- Tuesday, May 26th: All school-owned materials (textbooks, computers, etc.) should be returned to the courtyard.
- Friday, May 29th: End of Quarter 4/Semester 2
- Friday, June 5th: Teachers will finalize and email Quarter 4/Semester 2 grade reports.

Summer Tutoring
If you are seeking some additional time with a Great Hearts teacher for your scholar over summer, please reach out to Mary Pantin at
Mary.Pantin@GreatHeartsIrving.org so she can help coordinate with your family. Several of our teachers may be available to work with your student to enhance their understanding of Spalding, Singapore, Literature, Writing, and more.

Return to School
The entire Great Hearts network is working diligently on plans for our return to school. Our hope and expectation is to be able to open our doors and have both teachers and students return while maintaining the safety and welfare of all. Of course, it is prudent for us to develop contingency plans as well, should they need to be implemented. We will communicate during the summer months with additional updates as more information become known. These updates will include days and times for Kindergarten Preview Night and Meet the Teacher, which we expect to occur sometime in August, as well as the First Day of School for the 2020-2021 school year.

Breakfast and Lunch Pick-up
Due to the Memorial Day holiday, there will be no breakfast and lunch pick-up on Monday, May 25th. Breakfasts and lunches for two weeks will be distributed on Monday, May 18th, which will be the final pick-up date for this school year.

Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote, “They drove a long way through the snowy woods, till they came to the town of Pepin. Mary and Laura had seen it once before, but it looked different now.” While we have been apart a long while now, and things may seem different from before, the things that really matter and make Great Hearts Irving, Great Hearts Irving, remain.
