CGS Weekly: August 16, 2020
THIS SUNDAY MORNING
Join us for worship this Sunday, August 16, via our virtual worship service broadcast! We will NOT be having a drive-in service this week. We will post the link to the service here at 8:00am on Sunday. In addition, we will post the link to the CGS Facebook page, and send it out via email. You may view a copy of the bulletin for this week's virtual service here. You may view Kids' Notes here. As a reminder, you may give to CGS online here. (If you have questions, you may reference this online giving tutorial here.) You may also mail a check to the church (3741 Garrett Rd, Durham, NC 27707) if you prefer.

We will also include a Sermon Discussion Guide in Sunday morning's email with worship service link. These questions are for both individuals and community groups.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Parent-Teacher Conversations Webinar
This school year brings challenges that both parents and teachers have never faced before. There are no “right” answers, though everyone is seeking to provide the best education as safely as possible. We want to provide meaningful support for both our parents and teachers in our congregation.

This coming Wednesday, August 19, from 7:45-9:15pm, we will host a webinar where parents can address the concerns and questions they are facing with veteran teachers whom they trust—teachers who worship together with them at CGS. While we also want to hear about the teachers’ challenges, the webinar will primarily focus on your questions and concerns. We will meet on Zoom as both a large group and in breakout groups focusing on elementary, middle, high school, and special education. We will close the webinar by spending time praying together for the teachers and the parents attending.

Register here for the webinar. Please email [email protected] to submit any questions that you would like us to address in the webinar.

Access the Zoom meeting here on August 19. Password is 532004.
Drive-In Service Feedback Survey
If you attended the drive-in service this past Sunday, we would greatly appreciate your feedback to assist us with planning future drive-in services. Please click here to fill out a survey regarding various aspects of the drive-in service experience. We also have some questions regarding the livestream experience for those who watched live from home.
Calling All Expecting Parents!
We have a bit of an odd request for you, but these are odd times SO…If you are expecting a little one in the next nine months, could you let us know? Since we aren’t “bumping” into one another much these days, the nursery team would love to know if you are expecting so we can better pray for you and for your little(s), and better support you as you navigate through your pregnancy. Don’t worry though, discretion is our middle name, so just email RiLee Robeson & mum’s the word!
Women's Bible Study
Our Women’s Bible Study that has traditionally met on Wednesdays at the church has switched to an online format for the fall semester. Click here for more info and to register.
Partner with International Students at Duke
This year our partnership opportunities look a little different, but international students are here and ministry is happening. Check out how to be a virtual conversation partner, iFriend, or prayer warrior for International Students, Inc. at Duke.

Global Outreach Spotlight
Meet: Brian & Kim Burchell
In 1999 Brian and Kim moved to Singapore, where they worked with Church Resource Ministries (CRM), encouraging and training churches in missions theology and effective outreach strategy.
In 2004 Brian and Kim transitioned to working with The JESUS Film Project. Brian's experience in Asia led to his oversight of Jesus film production in Southeast Asia, including a film for reaching women, “Magdalena,” in four languages. Currently Brian serves as the Director for Human Resources with the JESUS Film Project.
Pray: Praise for the launch on ten digital social media campaigns in eight SE Asian countries. These campaigns were successful not only in reaching thousands of SE Asians, but also in developing digital maturity among our national staff teams. Over 2 million SE Asians were exposed to the gospel through these May campaigns. Please pray for the ongoing development and future launch of more digital campaigns. In mid September, there will be a training webinar designed to equip safe houses and ministries reaching out to women, especially those hurt by sex trafficking. The Magdalena film will be used as a springboard for heart-level evangelistic conversations. Please pray that this event will bear fruit in the lives of women and multiply throughout Thailand and pray for Kim as she leads in this capacity.
Men's Bible Study Meeting Virtually
Our Friday morning Men's Bible Study is meeting virtually via Zoom for the foreseeable future at 7:00am each Friday. If anyone who is not currently involved with the Men's Bible Study wants more information, they can email Joseph Scanlon or Norman Acker.
Racial Truth & Reconciliation Resources
