Snowlion Rep is

It's been our observation that when the pandemic first struck, Facebook (for example) was filled with theater people determined to perform - sing, read, be part of something, anything, theatrical that was being put together virtually. They made videos, posted posts, and cried out their frustration in pertinent and often hilarious memes.
In the grim months since our last newsletter, many we know have hunkered down for the long haul. There's been more sharing about the small things - a beautiful sunset, a kitten adorably asleep, a past poignant memory, a current invigorating hike. COVID is testing us all, but if it's done nothing else, it seems it's helped us cherish the present moment like nothing else. And yes, there's still the occasional "Gosh, I miss theater" post. We all miss it, terribly. But when theater returns, let's hope it's to a world more thoughtful, more caring, more grounded in the now than ever before.
We hope you are all safe and well and finding special moments during this historic time! Sincerely, Al D'Andrea, Artistic Director

NEWS
from the pandemic
Snowlion Rep is still here! Our model of devoting our resources to developing new work, and thus not carrying a full-time performance space, has allowed us to survive these unprecedented times.
Once things ease up for theaters nationwide, we will continue bringing unique new plays and musicals to Maine audiences, to wit: Our first post-pandemic production will be The Secret Princess, the world premiere musical based on a Mark Twain short story. Hilarious, tuneful, with an amazing cast. We'll let you know WHEN that is scheduled. As to WHERE - many of you may have heard that our regular performing space at Portland Ballet has been a victim of the pandemic - it has been dismantled to be re-leased as a non-theater space. We at Snowlion Rep will plan to find an alternate space to perform when the time comes, but in the meanwhile, we are grateful for the memories of the wonderful shows we shared with audiences at the lovely, comfortable, and vibrant Portland Ballet Studio Theater! As we wait for things to loosen up, we are busy creating new works! Next up after The Secret Princess will be a world premiere play: TALES FROM THE LAND OF SNOWS
TALES is a collection of funny, wise, joyful and profound tales from the lands at the roof of the world, woven together to create a unified story that speaks directly to the most important lessons for modern man and woman to discover. Guaranteed to be an enlightening and unique evening of theater!
We are also currently developing a new play based on the life and work of Lord Byron; a play about a dysfunctional (and funny!) family centered around a wedding; and we hope to bring to production in Maine our children's musical, The Sock Who Lost His Mate (which opened the New York Children's Theater Festival a few years back). When theater is allowed to come back, there will be an explosion of new work, talent champing at the bit to perform, and we hope, audiences like you to come out and support the great Arts Economy in Maine! We hope to see you SOON!

WE STILL HAVE BILLS TO PAY
Yes, many of our bills have not stopped, just because everything else (like any income) has stopped. That includes insurance, rental of a post office box, rental of a storage space, website hosting, phone hosting, and even this email marketing program, which is not cheap!
So much is being asked of us as a nation right now, but if you have a soft spot for new plays and new musicals, and want to help support a non-profit that will most likely be among the very last businesses allowed to open, we will happily accept any donation you can make! To quote the words of our iconic play about the Portland panhandling controversy,
"ANYTHING HELPS"
And may God bless us, every one!
