Congregations are important hubs during times of disaster, as they have the capacity to mobilize volunteers and offer vital facilities. They are also centers of trust where non-English speaking and oftentimes undocumented residents feel safe. LISTOS California is a grass-roots disaster preparedness program that can be tailored to meet the individual needs of Spanish-speaking communities, partners with community leaders, jurisdictions, non-profits, faith-based organizations, schools, and other community institutions, to provide disaster preparedness information to the Spanish-speaking community. With a basic understanding of ICS (Incident Command Structure), LISTOS can instruct participants, in a format that is both culturally and linguistically appropriate for the target population, in the command structure of First Responders, ensuring clear and effective communication between LISTOS graduates, firefighters and law enforcement in the event of an emergency.  This week's "Online Briefing for Faith Leaders," hosted by the San Francisco Interfaith Council (SFIC) and supported by the COVID Command Center's Joint Information Center (JIC) Virtual Outreach Team, welcomes LISTOS California Architect and Co-Chair Karen Baker, who will shine a light on this important emergency preparedness campaign in these times of the COVID-19.
