Postcard from the President
Spring is a time to celebrate the Arts with many exhibitions, competitions, and the K-12 Student Art Assessment & Virtual Exhibition program. We are so proud of our YAM flag winner, Miranda Pulmano (grade 6) from Glades Middle School in Broward County. This amazing flag design was guided through the exceptional teaching of Jacqueline Ortiz. The flag was displayed virtually alongside all state flags at this year’s NAEA convention. Youth Art Month was created in 1961 by the Art & Creative Materials Institute (ACMI) as an event to emphasize the value of students’ artmaking. In 1984, ACMI created the non-profit organization called The Council for Art Education to advocate for visual art education. Although Youth Art Month typically occurs in March, art educators are always looking for new ways to share the brilliance of our students’ lives through exhibitions in the community.

The Summer Art Workshops will have a focus on the 5 Senses. This innovative and immersive idea comes from the collaborative efforts of the Professional Development Committee, chaired by Nancy Puri. The committee is working out the details and is eager to send out more information about the summer learning experiences. Keep your eye on the website and social media for upcoming program information. Conference workshop proposals will also be coming your way this month! Share those great ideas with your community of art educators.

Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion task force is collaborating with the Adaptive Arts task force to bring new resources for our members in the fall. If you are interested in being part of either task force, please email FAEA@Info.org and become part of the planning.

Last, but not least, begin thinking about colleagues you work with daily or across the state who have inspired your work as an art educator and consider nominating them for an FAEA Award. Nominations for our next board of directors have just opened; consider being part of this dynamic group of leaders!
