Chapter board update:
As we continue to practice safe everything to stay healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic, your TRIO Philadelphia chapter board has elected a new president, Bill Soloway, only the third president in our 23 year history. They also added a new member to the chapter board, Bob Goodman. We invite YOU to join us in launching an exciting new phase in our chapter history under this new leadership.

A letter from the president:

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy during the COVID pandemic. My name is Bill Soloway and I am the new president of the Philadelphia Chapter of TRIO.
I want to first thank Jim Gleason for leading our Chapter for the last 11 years. TRIO Philadelphia has been around over 23 years. Elizabeth Rubin had her life saving liver transplant in Pittsburgh and started our Chapter as its first president, serving for the first 12 years. Both Jim and Elizabeth are still active members in our Chapter as well as serve on the TRIO National Board, Jim as President and Elizabeth as Secretary.
I am happy to welcome Bob Goodman, fellow heart transplant recipient and friend, to the Philadelphia TRIO Board. Bob is Treasurer, Board member and Chair of the Finance Committee for both the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) and the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and also the Board Chair of the American Heart Association of Central/Southern NJ.
It’s been 5 years since I’ve had my Heart Transplant and within a few weeks became a Volunteer and Ambassador for the Gift of Life Donor Program as a way of giving back and also to honor my donor, James. I also became involved with the Heart Transplant Support group at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) where I first met Jim Gleason. I am also an Advisory Board Member for the Gift of Life Family House, UNOS Ambassador and Co-Chair of the Masonic Blood and Organ Donor Program.
I am really excited about some new things we are doing here in the Philadelphia Chapter! I really consider TRIO to be “Your Voice in the Transplant Community”. To that end we are in the process of helping to develop not one but two smart phone apps that will be available for the transplant community. We are also involved in National Webinars that feature TRIO members, research studies to help understand how certain conditions effect transplant patients and we
are about to launch a virtual visiting program of Pre and Post transplant patients in the Philadelphia area with the expansion into the Delaware Valley and surrounding suburbs.
I am putting together some interesting topics for our virtual meetings that will be viewable on the events page of our new website: TRIOPhiladelphia.org
There are a lot great things happening in our Chapter but we can’t grow without your involvement and support! We need new members! Please reach out to your transplant friends, Team Philadelphia members, Home Cook Heroes Group…
We are looking for your involvement. Please reach out to me and let me know what your strengths are and how you wish to get involved and engaged. Are you a Social Media maven? Do you have the tool set to be our webmaster? Are you a word smith and love writing articles? Do you want to get involved in virtual patient visits? Have any good ideas for programs or speakers? I would love to hear from you!
Honor your gift and help other transplant patients,
Bill Soloway
