Family Prayer

Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reading I : Exodus 17:8-13

God is with us, even when the going is tough.

  • The Exodus story is part of the wilderness narrative. The Israelites had recently left Egypt and were on the way to Sinai through the desert wilderness.
  • One of the difficulties they encountered was conflict with the Amalekites, a nomadic people who warred against anyone who encroached on their territory.
  • As long as Moses prayed, Israel won the battle. With the help of the community, Moses was able to persevere in prayer.

Reading II : 2 Timothy 3:14-4:2

Be faithful to what you have learned.

  • The reading from the Second Letter of Paul to Timothy confirms Timothy's commission to leadership in the Church.
  • The responsibilities are wide-ranging and the author warns Timothy of the difficulties of this job.
  • Timothy's greatest hardship is dealing with the opponents who are seen as rejecting all law and order in the Church while others seem to be set on binding the Church with rigorous laws and practices.

Gospel : Luke 18:1-8

Pray always and never lose heart.

  • The point of today's parable is perseverance in prayer.
  • The story is aimed to bring comfort to the disciples as they await the coming of the Son of Man.
  • The final sentence connects the delay of an answer to prayer to the delay of the coming of the Son of Man. Only those who continue to have faith will be able to persevere to the end.

A Message from Mr. Oberdorf

I am looking forward to seeing everyone for our mid- trimester conferences today. It is hard to believe it is the midpoint of the semester already. Remember conferences are 15 minutes long and are mandatory. Your child should attend the conference with you. Please enter through door #6 or door #12 and head to your child’s classroom.

Conference will be held today, Thursday, October 13th between the hours of

12:00 noon-8:00 p.m.

Trunk or Treat October 21st 6:30 p.m.

Trunk or treat is a great event hosted by our Home and School Committee. We do need help to have this great event. We need volunteers for decorating, kitchen help, and clean up. Donations for toppings for apple sundays and donations for our raffles are also needed.

The daily prize amounts are listed on the back of the calendar, and they range anywhere from $25-$250.

Thursday Folder Highlights

Calling All Saints

Each year, as part of our celebration of All Saints Day, our students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite saint. This year’s celebration will take place at the all-school liturgy on Tuesday, November 1st.

Led by our third graders, these “saints in the making” enter church at the beginning of mass, as a living celebration of this important liturgical feast. In order to plan for the day, students are asked to commit to dressing up as a saint.

Look for the yellow flyer in the folder for your child to sign up. Please return the form to your child's homeroom teacher by Tuesday, October 25th.
