EYC Mission Trip 2021
EYC had a blast last week during their in-town Mission Week! Although our EYC youth had to stay local this year, they still jumped into an incredible, fun, and impactful mission trip from June 1 through 4! On Tuesday, they did work around the church, on Wednesday, they were at Feeding Tampa Bay, and on Thursday, the older children worked at the Humane Society. Over the course of the week, the youth also made angels for homebound parishioners and these were delivered on Thursday. On Friday, they went to Benison Farm, an outreach project of St. Thomas and St. Augustine Episcopal churches in St. Petersburg. On Sunday, there was a prayer labyrinth in the Parish Hall. We are so proud of our youth volunteers!
Coffee Is Brewing!
Coffee Hour Hospitality continues this Sunday, June 13! We welcome everyone who is comfortable doing so to join us for fellowship after both services.
Updated Service Procedures
All of us at St John’s—congregation, clergy, and staff—have done a magnificent job of keeping one another safe during the time of COVID. We have been diligent about following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Episcopal Church, the Diocese of Southwest Florida, and our local authorities. Since that guidance has changed, we invite you to please see more information about our updated policies at our website.
Hospitality Request
We have been asked for help by one of the students negatively impacted by the housing shortage at the University of Tampa this fall, a situation you may have read about in local media. The 20-year old Episcopal girl from the Bahamas is in need is of a bedroom and bathroom for the fall term beginning August 23. If you have a spare room and feel called to help, please contact Fr. Cannon.
We are excited to announce that we are forming a new group for Sacred Ground, the film-based dialogue series on race and faith. The series will be held in a small group limited to 15 people and conducted on Zoom in 10 sessions, meeting every other week.

The small group will be invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race and racism, while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories. Sacred Ground is part of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. For more information, visit https://episcopalchurch.org/sacred-ground. Contact Fr. Michael to join.
