Even before that now-infamous tape was released, we had planned to speak at the debate about my opponent's inaccessibility, her ties to dark money, and numerous incidents of corruption in her office. And we shared the upcoming event with our supporters, inviting everyone for the opportunity to see us side-by-side answering direct questions.
Well, late last night, we learned that Assemblymember Carrillo pulled out of our debate.
She claims a scheduling conflict, but we all know the real reason. She didn't want to face questions about her close ties with the folks caught on that horrific audio tape.
Look, we're all busy. But we make time for the things that are important to us. And speaking with district residents will always be top of my priorities. If Rep. Adam Schiff, Asm. Laura Friedman, and I can all make it to this forum - which was scheduled months ago - why can't she? My opponent was even offered an opportunity to attend virtually, but declined that as well.
Because the League of Women Voters doesn't host single candidate forums, the AD-52 forum planned for tomorrow evening is cancelled entirely.
And I must say, this isn't the first time that Asm. Carrillo has declined to face me - when I was at the Stonewall Democratic Club endorsement meeting, my opponent didn't even bother to show up and sent someone else to fight her battles.
