Fifth graders Dalia P. and Adina T. organized a Winter Tzedakah Drive. Watch them introduce their plan in the video above!
Students Organize a Winter Tzedakah Drive

Sustainable Soup Sunday taught us about sustainable practices: giving not once but giving regularly. That's what fifth graders Dalia P. and Adina T. are doing with their tzedakah (charitable giving) drives. They are starting with a Winter Drive for food and winter gear, and they are already thinking ahead to future drives. They are thinking about holiday drives for Passover and Hanukah and a back-to-school drive at the beginning of the next school year.

Many items and dollars have already been donated, and Dalia and Adina are still collecting through next Wednesday, February 2! K-2 students should bring food, 3-5 students should bring winter clothes, and 6-8 students should bring pet food.

Dalia and Adina's initiative adheres to many of Heilicher's core values, including

  • Kol Yisrael — All Jews are responsible for one another.
  • V'im lo acshav — And if not now, when?
  • Mitzvah gorrerret mitzvah — A mitzvah leads to another mitzvah.
  • Lo alecha — It is not entirely upon you.

Their project involves all of Heilicher in helping those in need. Kol hakavod, all the respect and well done, to Dalia and Adina!

Change to Heilicher COVID-19 Quarantine Guidelines
(for fully vaccinated students)

Thank you all for doing your part to procure rapid antigen or PCR tests for your students prior to their return to in-person school this past Monday. We appreciate the commitment of our entire Heilicher community to keeping our students and staff healthy!

Heilicher is adapting its isolation and quarantine protocols consistent with new guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health.

Specifically, if someone in your household is diagnosed with COVID-19, and your student is fully vaccinated (at least two weeks past their second COVID-19 shot), they no longer will need to quarantine. They may continue to attend school as long as they test negative every morning for five days on a rapid antigen test. These tests will be administered by the school nurse each morning before your child enters the classroom. On day five, Heilicher will administer a PCR test to your student upon their arrival at school (unless they have had COVID-19 within the past 90 days). If negative, no further testing is required unless your child develops symptoms of COVID-19 or there is evidence of additional in-home transmission.

It is absolutely critical that you continue to report any positive COVID-19 diagnoses in your household or close-contact exposures, as well as potential COVID-19 symptoms, through the Heilicher Communication Center. Each situation is unique, and Nurse Katie will communicate with your family regarding any adjustments to these quarantine and testing guidelines.
