“You must bear the spiritual infirmities of your brother gladly, and without annoyance. For when someone is physically ill, we are not only not annoyed with him, but we are exemplary in our care of him; we should also set an example in cases of spiritual illness." St. Moses of Optina

In Sunday's Sermon, Deacon Perry reminds us that in times of hopelessness and despair, saints teach us to turn outward toward God and neighbor: "The way the saints respond to hardships and suffering is not by pitying themselves, losing hope, blaming God, or shutting down—the way the saints respond is with gratitude and prayer. Saints don't turn in and focus on themselves; they turn outward toward God and their neighbor with love...Recall today's epistle: After Paul and Silas are arrested, beaten, and imprisoned, they "were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening" (Acts 16:25). And then a miraculous earthquake shakes the prison where they are being held, and all the doors and chains are opened. The jailer realizes what has happened, and he despairs. His impulse is to end his own life. But here is the greater miracle—Paul and Silas do not flee and leave him to his sorrowful demise; instead, full of love for God, they stay with the jailer, 'do not harm yourself,' they say, 'for we are all here with you.' Because "Christ is Risen," the Apostles do not look out only for themselves and flee; they turn to their neighbor and offer him hope." To watch the entire sermon, please click on the video.

Weekly Offering
“People give all sorts of reasons to excuse their lack of charity, their hardheartedness! Some say, ‘hard times.’ But if the times are hard for those who have a sufficiency, how much harder are they for the poor? This pretext alone should lead one to give all the more generously.”
Saint Theophan the Recluse

FEED6 - THANK YOU to our Holy Apostles' family and friends for rising to the challenge and marking this year's FEED6 event a tremendous success! We raised a remarkable $28,000, and 238 volunteers came together and packed a total of 95,676 nutritious meals for hungry and food insecure children, families, veterans, and seniors in our local communities. The meals will be immediately distributed through the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Lakeview Food Pantry, and Project Hope. This brings the total number of meals packaged by the Holy Apostles community over the last five years to 482,232! It is a tremendous gift to minister to others in this way, and we cannot thank you enough for helping make this happen.
