WORLD KINDNESS DAY
On November 13th, as part of World Kindness Day, we are encouraged to spread kindness like an infectious cold. We want to share it more than usual because studies show when others observe kindness in action they are more likely to carry out an act of kindness, too.
So, imagine if you head out for the day and your neighbor’s garbage can has tipped over. Instead of ignoring it and letting the wind make a mess, you pick it up and return it to the corner. Three other neighbors notice and give you a smile and a nod on their way to work.
One of those neighbors notices a stranded driver on the side of the road on his commute to work. He remembers your thoughtfulness and offers assistance to the stranded driver. Several passersby take notice.
At a business office, a woman struggles with a paper jam. She’s had a horrible day. The customer has been waiting, but she remembers the stranded driver she passed earlier in the day. The customer lets the office worker take her time. Anyone can have a bad day, but this prevents it from getting worse and may even make it better.
We each have the potential to improve each others’ lives through understanding and kindness. Whether it’s a friend, family member, coworker, or stranger, our ability to show our humanity should have no limit.

VENDOR OF THE WEEK:
Huckleberry Creamery
New product alert! You can now find yogurt, heavy cream, and creole cream cheese, a traditional New Orleans form of farmer's cheese, at Huckleberry Creamery’s table! Based in Franklinton, Louisiana, Huckleberry Creamery began operating in 2019 and has been producing a creamy array of goat cheeses, goat milk, soaps, and eggs ever since. Goat’s milk has often been sought out as a great alternative to cow’s milk as it contains less lactose, smaller fat globules, and is even richer in protein. It’s also delicious—making goat cheese a great addition to salads, pizza, pasta, or any dish. Find Huckleberry Creamery at our Sunday and Thursday markets, or any time you hear us mention baby goats!

Covington Three Rivers Art Festival
Whe you're at our festival on Nov. 13, be sure to stop by our Arts Alive tent and meet this year's Arts Alive artist Terrance D Osborne, who will be painting on site all weekend!
A native New Orleanian, Osborne grew up in the heart of his culturally rich city being inspired by his diverse and colorful social surroundings. Osborne always held an undercurrent interest in art, largely fueled by his mother and his older brother. While in high school, under the guidance of artist Richard Thomas, Osborne was able to paint with the passion and expression that he had been so avid about.
He attended the prestigious New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (N.O.C.C.A.) and later graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Xavier University in New Orleans. For the following five years he taught art at Alice Harte Elementary until Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and he relocated his family to Georgia. From then on, with his wife Stephanie running the business end of his art career, Osborne decided to dedicate his time completely to art. After two years in Georgia, he moved his family back to New Orleans and because of his new works, depicting scenes of a colorful New Orleans saturated by Hurricane Katrina imagery, his work quickly became international recognized. Over the years Osborne would be been featured in a slew of public media for his vivid and delightfully dynamic works glorifying New Orleans culture. “New Orleans is one of those places in the world that everyone loves because our people love people.”
His 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2018 Official Jazz & Heritage Festival Posters are a handful of the most collected posters in the world. 2006 Osborne gained partnerships with Nike to design a poster and the first New Orleans Air Force 1 tennis shoe. Osborne’s partnerships continued over the years with companies like NBA, CocaCola, Heineken and Coup De Fondré Winery.
In 2017 he officially opened Terrance Osborne Gallery in uptown New Orleans. His gallery remains one of the top galleries in the city. Be it art connoisseur or causal collector, Terrance Osborne’s art continues a delight the eyes cross all divides.

After 24 landmark years on Broadway, The Lion King continues ascendant as one of the most popular stage musicals in the world. Since its premiere on November 13, 1997, 25 global productions have been seen by nearly 110 million people. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions (under the direction of Thomas Schumacher), The Lion King has made theatrical history with six productions worldwide running 15 or more years, with four of those running 20 or more years. The Broadway score features Elton John and Tim Rice’s songs from the Lion King animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice; additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer; and music from “Rhythm of the Pride Lands,” an album inspired by the original music in the film, written by Lebo M, Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer. The resulting sound of The Lion King is a fusion of Western popular music and the distinctive sounds and rhythms of Africa, ranging from the Academy Award®-winning song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” to Lebo M’s rich choral numbers.

Spanish New Orleans and the Caribbean / La Nueva Orleans y el Caribe españoles
A bilingual exhibition / Una exposición bilingüe
November 9, 2022–January 22, 2023 /
Tuesday/martes–Saturday/sábado, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m; Sunday/domingo, 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
520 Royal Street, Tricentennial Wing, 1st Floor
Free ticketed admission / Acceso gratuito con entrada
About the Exhibition / Sobre la exposición
New Orleans has long been identified—by locals, tourists, and historians alike—with its French heritage. A groundbreaking exhibition at The Historic New Orleans Collection restores balance to that assessment. During four decades under Spanish rule (1762–1803), the city experienced natural disaster, diplomatic tensions, and demographic transformation. Despite numerous challenges, Spanish New Orleans morphed from a poorly managed outpost on the edge of an empire to a highly urbanized colonial capital—one enriched by the racial and cultural diversity for which it is celebrated today.
Rare Artifacts come to New Orleans for Exhibition on Spanish Colonial Era
Free bilingual display on view Oct. 20, 2022–Jan. 22, 2023
Features more than 120 objects — including maps, documents, furniture, paintings, books and more — from THNOC’s permanent holdings as well as from several institutions in Spain, Mexico and the United States. The display is the first and only time this selection of objects will be presented together in one space.
In a first for THNOC, “Spanish New Orleans and the Caribbean / La Nueva Orleans y el Caribe españoles” will be presented in both English and Spanish.
“Spanish New Orleans and the Caribbean” will be on view on the first level of THNOC’s Tricentennial Wing at 520 Royal St. in the French Quarter from Oct. 29, 2022, through Jan. 22, 2023. Admission is free. Advance reservations are recommended and may be made at my.hnoc.org beginning Thursday, Oct.13, 2022. For more information, visit www.hnoc.org.

NATIONAL INDIAN PUDDING DAY
National Indian Pudding Day recognizes a cold-weather classic. On November 13th each year, serve up this traditional New England dessert that’s sure to wow.
In the seventeenth century, English colonists brought hasty pudding to North America, transforming it. Although they initially made the pudding with wheat, due to a shortage of grain, the colonists eventually used cornmeal. Since the colonists had learned to cultivate maize (corn) from the indigenous peoples, the crop was readily available. The colonists derived the name for Indian pudding from their name for cornmeal – Indian meal. They also replaced the water with milk. For added flavor, cooks add either molasses or maple syrup. Other ingredients they added include cinnamon, ground ginger, butter, eggs, raisins, and nuts.
They then slowly baked the Indian pudding for several hours. Baking transforms the pudding’s texture from the original porridge-like quality of hasty pudding to a much smoother consistency which is more typical of custard.
- Before 1900, most American cookbooks included a recipe for Indian pudding.
- By the 20th-century, commercial puddings with an industrially perfect creamy consistency replaced the popularity of Indian pudding.
- The long cooking time required for Indian pudding did not appeal to 20th century home cooks.
- However, during the autumn holidays, Indian pudding some restaurants serve the dish due to its fall traditions.
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream pair nicely with Indian pudding.

Stained Glass Wine House Celebrates First-Year Anniversary
201 Huey P. Long Ave, Suite A, Gretna, LA 70053
15:00 November 08, 2022
By: Gracie Wise
Over the many decades since America's founding, the bravest men and women have made a ton of sacrifices. Whether it meant sailing the stormy Atlantic or storming the perilous jungles in Vietnam, they all had a goal--to preserve life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
As Veteran's Day approaches, Stained Glass Wine House will be celebrating its first birthday by hosting three exciting events in partnership with Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs:
·
· Dinner and Drinks with Deuccce!!: Meet Saints player Deuce McAlister on Wednesday, November 16, at Stained Glass Wine House from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Get your tickets here for $100 to enjoy dinner and drinks.
· Paws for Veterans: Bring your pooch for a fun day of Mutt Strutt, photos, games, and vendors on Saturday, November 19. Guests will also enjoy specialty drinks and live music from personality Indy Blu at 1 p.m. You can register here. Participation packages are also available!
All proceeds will help raise money for a Louisiana veteran with PTSD to adopt a service dog. They are raising $25,000, which will help cover the costs for training and owning the pet. Your support will make a world of difference.
About Stained Glass Wine House
Stained Glass Wine House is owned and operated by four Air Force veterans in 2021. Hailed as one of the best bars in Gretna by Where Y'at, they give customers a unique self-serve experience in a relaxed, community-centric environment. Charcuterie and dessert boards are also available. They plan on expanding operations to Jefferson Parish.

Jazz'n the Vines 11/19:
81250 Hwy 1082, Bush, LA 70431
3:30: DUSKY WATERS
6:30: BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO JR.
Hi Wine Club Family! We are blowing it out for our Fall Jazz'n the Vines Finale, starting with Dusky Waters on our new side stage from 3:30-6pm, and rolling into the evening with our headliner- the amazing Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. and Ils Sont Partis Band from 6:30-9pm!
Whether you prefer to catch the sun or the stars, we have great entertainment for you on November 19th!
Carrying on his Father’s legacy and band, Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. now leads the bands in his legendary father’s footsteps. Growing up at his Father’s side while he played festivals with a host of rock and pop musicians, including Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, U2, Willie Nelson, Robert Plant and Keith Richards, Buckwheat Zydeco, Jr. carried the Louisiana standard of Zydeco music throughout the country.
The Legendary Ils Sont Partis Band derived from the Late Great Stanley Dural. also known as Buckwheat Zydeco. This Grammy and Emmy Award Winning band has performed over 2,500 shows and a host of television appearances. (David Letterman,CBS Morning News, Good Morning America to name a few). The Creole cousin of jazz, Zydeco music will have you up dancing in the isles, in your kitchen, in your living room, no matter your age or abilities; it’s family-festive music. We are honored to have these amazing musicians take the stage at Wild Bush and are so excited to see your 2 steppin moves!
Make a day of it and come out early to see one of our favorite local bands, Dusky Waters, from 3:30-6pm! If you haven’t caught this charming quartet before, well trust us, you will love them! Frontwoman Jennifer Jeffers enchants listeners with intricate layers of melodies and stories told through soulful lyricism. And there will be banjo playing yall. I mean, come on!
As if this wasn’t all enough, we are also partnering up with the Northshore Food Bank to do good while feeling good!
This event will include your chance to donate a much needed item to the Northshore Food Bank as we partner up to help collect items of need this holiday season! For every donation, you will be entered into a raffle for the chance to win free admission for 2 adults to our ENTIRE 2023 Jazz'n the Vines line up!

GOOD SHEPHERD SCHOOL ANNOUNCES STAR-STUDDED “NIGHT AT THE OSCARS” GALA TO SUPPORT SCHOOL’S PHILANTHROPIC MISSION
“Night at the Oscars“ Gala to Take Place Thursday, December 1 at The Cannery in Mid-City
(New Orleans) –Good Shepherd School (GSS) announced today their annual gala with a theme of “Night at the Oscars” on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at The Cannery in Mid-City with the event’s patron party beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the main event starting at 7:30 p.m.
This year’s celebratory soiree will feature entertainment from renowned international party band “After Party.” Food and exotic drinks for the event will be prepared by Toulouse Gourmet Catering.
The “Night at the Oscars” gala is a new and picturesque twist on GSS’s annual “Dancing with the Stars” gala and will have special honorees and awards handed out over the course of the night. Some GSS graduates will be spotlighted in video vignettes during the gala.
“This year’s ‘Night at the Oscars’ gala will be a spectacular event and bring a little bit of Hollywood to New Orleans,” said GSS President and CEO Thomas Moran. “It’s the perfect event to celebrate our supporters and the hard work our team at GSS provides helping families break the cycle of generational poverty through quality, faith-based education – all funded by the generosity of others.”
The event will continue the legacy of the school’s founder, Father Harry Tompson. Since opening its doors in 2001, the Gentilly-based Good Shepherd Pre-K and Elementary School has carried out Fr. Tompson’s lifelong mission of helping and educating children in need. The Catholic school opened its doors just four months after Fr. Tompson’s death with the mission of educating children no matter their family’s financial situation. So far, GSS has graduated 219 students and currently serves 264 students.
GSS is opening a second campus in the Desire-Florida Community currently serving Kindergarten students with plans to expand to additional grades in the coming years. The new campus is being constructed in partnership with The Giving Hope Foundation and will be located at 3601 Desire Parkway.
GSS has 74 college-age graduates, more than 20 have already earned their college degrees and will be featured on the school’s ever growing GSS College Graduate Wall. Additionally, more than 40 GSS alumni are nearing their college graduations in the next few years. GSS graduates have attended 25 different colleges and universities throughout the United States, including nine Historically Black Colleges and Universities. GSS Graduates have majored in just about every available academic program including Aviation, Art, Biology, Communications, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Education, English, Kinesiology, Law, Math, Mechanical Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, Political Science, and Physical Therapy.
Currently, 145 GSS graduates are thriving academically in local area Catholic, private, public, and charter high schools. Children’s Hospital New Orleans and Downtown Development District Unveil Details for Inaugural New Orleans Holiday Parade
The Children’s Hospital Holiday Parade will roll Saturday, Dec. 3 in partnership with the Downtown Development District, NewOrleans.com and Kern Studios
NEW ORLEANS – At a news conference held at Mardi Gras World Thursday, Nov.10, details were unveiled for the first-of-its-kind Children’s Hospital New Orleans Holiday Parade which will take place in downtown New Orleans Saturday, Dec. 3 starting at 3 p.m.
Kicking off the holiday season, the more than 20 float parade will include custom-designed holiday themed floats that include animatronic props, intelligent lighting systems, special effects and audio systems, along with traditional rider floats, bringing the joy and magic of the holiday season to thousands of parade-goers.
“Children’s Hospital is excited to help bring a world-class, kid and family-centered holiday parade to the City of New Orleans this December,” said John R. Nickens IV, President and CEO of Children’s Hospital New Orleans. “We invite the community to join us for an afternoon of joy and fun as we kickoff the holiday season together.”
The parade will also feature high-flying helium balloons displayed for the first-time in New Orleans, along with the beloved marching groups and bands that the citizens of New Orleans have come to love – and of course, Santa himself with his cast of holiday characters.
“New Orleans during the holidays is one of the most wonderful times of the year for our community,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “The Children’s Hospital New Orleans Holiday Parade is an exciting addition to all that our city has to offer for its citizens and visitors alike during this magical time of year. Come downtown and roll with us on Saturday, December 3 as we experience the joy of the holidays.”
The Children’s Hospital New Orleans Holiday Parade is made possible in partnership with the Downtown Development District, NewOrleans.com, the French Market Corporation, WDSU and many other supporters. Float sponsors include B1 Bank, Chick-fil-A New Orleans, the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, The National WWII Museum, Louisiana Feed Your Soul and Audacy.
"The Downtown Development District is pleased to continue its support of the City's Holiday Parade,” said Downtown Development District President and CEO Davon Barbour. “In partnering with Kern Studios, this year's parade will be bigger and better than ever with national exposure. We take our responsibility as advocates for the Downtown community very seriously and believe that this reimagining of the parade will serve as a significant economic boost to Downtown businesses."
