"Pure love is capable of great deeds, and it is not broken by difficulty or adversity." - St. Faustina

Last Sunday we celebrated the feast day of Divine Mercy, where we recognize the infinite ocean of mercy that Christ has waiting for each one of us.  What is mercy?  Mercy is defined as "compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm."  The Divine Mercy image was revealed to St. Faustina with the words, "Jesus I trust in you."  I can think of no better time to pray with this image and ask the intercession of this beautiful saint.  One of her relics resides in the Pope John Paul II Polish Center in Yorba Linda and when the churches reopen, this would be a nice pilgrimage for your family to spend time in prayer.

How does mercy translate into our day to day lives?  I believe that there are many opportunities right now to practice this virtue!  We have all been quarantined at home with our beloved families for over a month now.  This close connection to one another can bring out the best and sometimes the worst.  With this virtue, we can pray for our spouse, pray for our children, and ask them to pray for us, especially when our patience and perseverance have worn thin.  In public places, the stress is palpable. Letting someone go ahead in line (6 feet away), bringing groceries to a vulnerable loved one, or offering to share a roll of toilet paper with a neighbor embodies mercy and kindness for one another.

St. Francis of Assisi School faculty, staff and administration deeply miss our community and feeling connected.  We continue to search out ways to not only share mercy with one another, but create moments of joy, hope, and excitement.  While things may not look the same while we are apart, one thing remains:  the spirit of St. Francis which resides in each one of us.  We are looking forward to hosting Student Council elections remotely, providing a Wolf Pack Parade with our Faculty and Administration, celebrating promotion for our Kindergarten students, honoring our Class of 2020, and continuing to recognize students who exemplify the FIAT values in their lives at home.  We want to stay connected as a community and will continue to reach out through Facebook and Instagram to open the doors to our hearts and homes where we remain on the journey together.  Thank you for your continued support of the strong work happening with our teachers and students.  Let us continue to remember that "we are not perfect, just forgiven."

Grateful for His mercy,

Jeannette Lambert
