PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Principal Disch
Mustangs,

Dr. Lathan shared a message regarding Governor Abbott’s recent executive order related to masks, noting that HISD’s current mask policy is in effect through Friday, June 4th. For the final week of school, students, employees, and visitors are not required to wear masks on campus; however, the vaccine is still not an option for elementary aged students so anyone who would prefer to still wear a mask is encouraged to do so.

Our goal coming into this year was to create a safe environment for staff and students so teachers could focus on delivering excellent and challenging lessons (regardless of a child’s chosen learning mode) and students could put their energy and time into learning. That mission will not change the final week of school. Students will continue to social distance and our classrooms and lunchroom will be cleaned every day and utilize air purifiers. Staff and families will make a decision about wearing masks, but I do not want that to be the focus of our final week of school. It has a been a wild and challenging year, and I want us to celebrate the amazing things we have accomplished as a school community. Teachers have planned engaging activities to close out the year and there will be a class party on the final day of school.

If you are not comfortable with the changes to the safety plan based on the Governor’s order and would prefer for your child to be virtual, please let your teacher know. Reach out to me or your child’s grade level administrator if you have any questions.

All the best,

Scott C. Disch
Principal
