From The Interim Rector

Dear All,

In order to be as fair as possible, we will be taking reservations for our Christmas Services on a first come, first served basis.
We have a total of 15 “spots” to seat individuals or family units, therefore each reservation will be for ONE SPOT which can seat from 1 to 5 individuals who reside together.

Christmas Services are:
  • 12/24 – 7:30 PM and 10:00 PM
  • 12/25 – 9:00 AM

PLEASE NOTE:
  • If you are a server at a service you do NOT need a reservation
  • No one will be admitted without a reservation!!!
  • We will notify you as soon as possible with a confirmation (or not)
  • If your plans change, please let us know immediately so we can give your reservation to someone else
  • BOOKING A RESERVATION BEGINS ON WEDNESDAY 12/2 AT 9:00 AM by calling the office 302-994-1584

We ask your forbearance as we try, as best as we can, to navigate these challenging times.
God’s peace,
Kim
Reaching out to those in need this holiday season

In our St. James’ tradition, we ask you to consider how you might brighten someone’s holiday. 2020 has taken a toll on so many, especially the elderly, those with limited finances, and those without homes. Due to the Coronavirus, we need to make a few changes in how we answer that need. Please consider if either or both opportunities for giving might fit in your holiday giving plans this year:

Adopt-a-Family

Nursing homes have been especially hard hit during this pandemic. As part of safety protocol, most residents are not able to have visitors and are confined to their rooms or wings of their residence. Adopt-a-Family has asked us to “adopt” 20 individuals of the Brandywine Nursing Home and who are without family. Our donations will go to individual gift cards.
Please send your contribution in the form of a check to the St. James’ parish office:
St. James’ Church
Attn: Adopt-a-Family
2106 St. James’ Church Road
Wilmington, DE 19808
(please mark: Adopt-a-Family in your check memo.)
Deadline for contributions: Monday, December 7th.

Emmanuel Dining Room

Warm socks, gloves, and hats are needed for the winter season.
While most of our guests are adults, we do have many children during the holiday season. So, all sizes are appreciated!
Below are the CONTACTLESS DROP OFF dates/times we will be in the parish hall parking lot and there to receive your donations of socks/gloves/hats.

  • Monday, 12/7 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Friday, 12/11 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Sunday, 12/13 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Due to Covid guidelines, we ask that you please do not drop off your donations at the parish hall or church.

Thank you for considering this request.
With thanks and blessings,

From Valerie Brunson:

Parish Hall Cherry Tree

The Cherry Tree in front of the Parish Hall is dying and will be removed sometime in the near future. It was a beautiful tree, and I am deeply saddened by having to remove it, but it is time. If anyone has a concern about this, please contact Val Brunson. I would be happy to talk to you about it.

Thanks.

A Prayer for the Second Sunday of Advent

Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
