Happy National Vocation Awareness Week! What an amazing week to celebrate those who have said YES to their vocation! We have special social media posted on our Facebook and Instagram pages every day this week that a parish can share with their parishioners.

This newsletter is full of good news and opportunities to promote vocations in a variety of ways: Altar Servers, Traveling Vocations Chalice, Rosary for Vocations, Behind the Veil #2 and more! Enjoy!

National Vocation Awareness Week

Good news!

Ten years ago, the average age of a woman entering the convent was 40. Now, it is 28! Also, after 50 years of declining membership, in 2018, the United States gained more religious sisters than it lost!

We are encouraging everyone to pray for vocations in a particular way this week so that we can have more good news like this in the future! Would you join us in praying a scriptural Rosary for Vocations?

We are so excited to announce that we have hired Elizabeth Cantu as our Marketing and Event Coordinator, which is a new position for Vocation Ministry.

She will be directing our social media and overseeing events like Behind the Veil and Behind the Habit!

Behind the Veil #2!

The first Behind the Veil was so incredibly fruitful for the 500 participants and 6 religious communities that we knew we had to offer this again with new communities on December 12, 2020! Since it is also the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, please join me in asking her to pray for this event.

So, here it is!!! The schedule for Behind the Veil #2. Please share this event with discerners and those curious about consecrated life! You might want to see the event, too!

NEW Altar Server Resources

Most priests’ first memories of serving the Lord are as altar servers. A national survey of men being ordained priests found that three-quarters of new priests were at one time altar servers. A parish can create an atmosphere of reverence and duty at Mass that reinforces in young people the joy of serving the Lord. Below are some resources for you to create that atmosphere at your parish, especially among your altar servers.

When I saw this incredible Traveling Vocations Chalice from Annunciation Parish in the Diocese of Stockton, I knew I needed to highlight it. Their vocation ministry is doing amazing work promoting vocations!

If you do not know, the Traveling Vocations Chalice Program was created and is promoted by the Serra Club. The main idea is that a chalice (and paten, if possible), used in the sacrifice of the Mass is sent home with families within the parish. Not only is this a symbol of the priesthood you want to imprint in the minds of all those who see it, but it also promotes the Eucharist. Having the chalice at home and the accompanying prayer booklet (see below) for a week is a reminder for individuals, parents and children in a family to pray and think about their own vocation. This program has the potential to bring about a vocation-minded parish, one family at a time.
