Blues Marathon returns to Fondren
.....This year's Annual Mississippi Blues Marathon returns to Fondren on February 19! Fifteen years ago, the marathon started and ended in Fondren. This year, the race begins at the State Capitol and works its way to Fondren and along several Fondren residential streets before returning to the Capitol. See race route.
.....Only one traffic lane will be blocked for racers allowing for traffic to proceed while the race is taking place.
.....Approximately 1,500 runners from through out the United States and several foreign countries are expected to participate in the marathon.
.....Local musicians will provide the "soundtrack" for the race and will double as entertainment for spectators.
.....WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO DIRECT RACERS THROUGH FONDREN! Please consider one of our volunteer positions by clicking on the below link. (Free t-shirts for all volunteers!) Route Monitors will help keep runners on the designated race course - 24 volunteers needed. Fondren Water Station Volunteers will staff the station at North State Street and Downing - 8 volunteers need.

.....Jolt your creativity and join local artists - Ginny Futvoye and Stacy Underwood on Thursday, January 27th, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. for a class that will explore elements and principals of abstract art and creativity.
.....Cost is $175 - all supplies and ‘light lunch snacks’ included.
.....The Precinct 4 COPS meeting will be Thursday, January 27, 5:30 p.m. at Fondren Presbyterian Church.

Opera Mississippi at Duling Hall
.....Opera Mississippi will feature "Future Stars on the Stage" tonight, 7:30 p.m. at Duling Hall. The evening will feature 12 winners of the John Alexander National Vocal Competition.
.....Opera Mississippi board member Ora Reed will preside over the evening as Master of Ceremonies. Music accompaniment will be by members of the Mississippi Symphony under the baton of Maestro Jay Dean. For tickets ($30): Ardenland

.....Fondren North Neighborhood Association's Annual Soup's On fundraiser is set for Saturday, February 12, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Broadmeadow United Methodist Church.
.....Due to COVID-19, all soup will be delivery (within 5-mile radius) or curbside pickup only. Cash, credit, Venmo or check will be accepted.
.....A new boutique, focused on fitness, has opened at 605 Duling. It is billed as "your go to ath-leisure destination for stylish babes in movement!"
Project on hold pending approval
.....WJTV reports that the proposed residential project being considered for the Duling School property is still awaiting approval by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) Board of Trustees.
.....According to WJTV, MDAH noted that the project is not on the agenda for the January 21 meeting.
.....The project is being proposed by developers Andrew Mattiace and Mike Peters.
ReStore: You Buy, Habitat Builds!
.....Habitat for Humanity Capital Area opened its ReStore last week at 615 Stonewall Street.
.....The purpose of ReStore is to resell donated construction and household-related items donated by businesses, companies and individuals. In turn, the items are sold to the public in a retail setting with the profits supporting the work of Habitat.
.....ReStore will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
