Annual Meeting: Virtual, but what a night!

We have been amazed all spring by the outpouring of understanding, support and virtual participation by Impact100 Philadelphia's members, friends, applicants and grantees. Our Annual Meeting on June 1 was a joyous celebration of the year's collective giving. We went into the Annual Meeting with a record number of members having voted for our grantees. The evening of June 1, we gathered on Zoom with a record number attending , more than 250 people. We had announced the result of members' votes on May 29, but at the Annual Meeting, we celebrated a record grants total with leaders from our six grantee organizations who spoke about the work that grant funds will support.

Near the end of the meeting, Co-President Madge Rothenberg announced the happy news that Impact100 Philadelphia ended the year with a $48,000 operating surplus, and would award that surplus as an additional $8,000 grant to each of the six finalists.

Watch the full Annual Meeting here (45 minutes) or watch these short presentations, which are just a few minutes each:

"Why I'm a member"
New video featuring members

Near the end of the Annual Meeting, Impact100 screened a short video edited by Founders Fellow Lizzy Lee ( pictured, right ). We thank Lizzy for all her work, which continued into this week to expand on the content.

The video features members telling why they joined Impact100 and why they find collective giving meaningful. There's no way we could articulate Impact's strengths any better than this !
Founders Fellows: Applications open July 1-31
Applications open July 1 for Impact100's Founders Fellowships

Kicking off its 7th year, Impact100's Founders Fellowship program is intended to encourage young women to learn about philanthropy and the critical issues that affect the Philadelphia region, and to participate in the work of a collective giving grantmaking organization. Preference will be given to applicants who do not have the financial resources to independently join Impact100 Philadelphia.

The Founders Fellowship is available to women, ages 25-35, who have demonstrated a commitment to improving lives in their communities through work, volunteerism, or study; who are interested in addressing the vital needs of our community through collective giving grantmaking; and who will bring a diverse perspective to Impact100 Philadelphia’s operations. Fellows are chosen through a competitive application process and enjoy membership in Impact100 Philadelphia without having to pay the annual membership fee. Fellows are expected to participate in the proposal review process and attend education programs and events. They are also encouraged to take on leadership roles within the organization. In addition, Fellows network with and are mentored by a diverse group of Impact100 Philadelphia members, including our Young Philanthropists, women ages 21-35 who join Impact100 at half the cost.

The Founders Fellowship criteria and application will be available here by July 1, and will be due no later than  July 31, 2020 . Members and friends: Please feel free to forward this email to young women who would be good candidates for the program. Questions? Please contact us at foundersfellowship@impact100philly.org .

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives
Impact100 Philadelphia's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee was formed in 2019. As of July 1, Jvawnna Bell ( pictured, left ) will join Impact's board as the Director of Strategic Initiatives, particularly focused on DEI.

In response to the murder of George Floyd and the systemic inequities in our country, Impact100 Philadelphia released this statement on racial justice last week. We appreciate the members and community members who wrote to us in response to the statement.

As one of our members on the DEI Committee wrote:

If there is any advice I can offer in moving forward, it is to dig deep and do the hard work of identifying and confronting the root causes of the issues we face as an organization, philanthropy, and women of a certain socio-economic level in Philadelphia.

It will be hard work and it should be hard work. It will be emotionally taxing and
the early rewards may not seem to come, but it is more than worth it to endure
this exercise and create a truly inclusive and equitable organization.

Impact100 Philadelphia pledges to do the hard work of looking inward, listening to all those our organization touches, and seeking to become a "truly inclusive and equitable organization." We will write regularly about this work here in the newsletter.

Member survey coming today
Members, please watch for another email coming today with a member survey. Given the many changes and new practices our organization adopted this spring, we're eager to hear from you. How was your membership experience this year? What can we do better?

We ask for responses no later than June 30. Thank you!

If you are not yet a member of Impact100 but are interested in joining, we'd love to have you be part of our organization! Please see below.

Would you like to join us or tell others about Impact100?
Impact100 Philly's growth is due to our members' enthusiasm for collective giving.
If you'd like to tell others about our organization , please feel free to forward
this newsletter - and we thank you for spreading the word. Members referring other women as members are by far the top reason for Impact100's growth since 2008.
If you or a friend or colleague would like to join Impact100 , we'd love to have you!

Women ages 36 and over join for $1,150; of that total, $1,000 is added to the grants pool for 2021. Women 35 and under join as Young Philanthropists at half that rate, $575.

The deadline to join and support the 2021 grants is December 1 , but members
who join or renew now are much-appreciated . Your early support is
tremendously helpful for future planning, and we welcome you to
participate in programs throughout 2020, follow our email updates, and
learn about Impact100 during the year ahead.
