Anaheim cases: 41,504
Anaheim continues to see new COVID-19 cases but is in steady decline from the winter surge.

But, with additional reopening measures, it's important we continue to fight COVID in all we do so we don't see cases go up again.

Anaheim saw an increase of 102 cases in the seven days from March 26-April 2, while Orange County saw 759 new cases in that time. Both figures are similar to what we saw last week.

Anaheim is at a cumulative 41,504 cases, with 5,311 among children.

Orange County is at a cumulative 250,854 cases, with 26,118 among children.

Sadly, Anaheim has seen 832 people pass from complications of COVID-19, the condition caused by coronavirus. The county has seen a total of 4,761 deaths.

Our hearts go out to the families who have lost someone dear to them.

The county has processed a total of 3,373,593 polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, tests, the standard for diagnosing COVID-19 cases.

Anaheim and Orange County remain in orange Tier 3, the second most permissive in the state's reopening framework.

The state's tiers are primarily based on two measurements, each determined by calculating the seven-day average with a seven-day lag:

  • Average positivity rate of testing
  • Average new daily cases per 100,000 residents

The county's current case rate is 2.8 per 100,000 residents.

The county's current positivity rate is 1.7 percent.

The county's current positivity rate among our harder-hit, low-income communities is 2.6 percent.

Vaccines: 50+ and 92805 ZIP code eligible
Anaheim continues to do all we can to support vaccination efforts in our community.

That includes two major vaccination sites at Anaheim Convention Center and Disneyland Resort as well as hosting smaller clinics for our most vulnerable residents.

As of this week, anyone age 50 and older is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. In addition, if you live in the 92805 ZIP code, you are also able to schedule an appointment now for a vaccine.

92805 is a priority neighborhood for our city and the state of California because of a high number of cases and socioeconomic factors.

If you have not already, please go to Othena.com to register for an appointment.

Even if you are not yet eligible, it's a good idea to preregister on Othena, the county's appointment system, to make sure you get a notification when it is your turn.

You can also find other vaccine sites here. You may also want to check with your doctor to see if they have vaccines available.

We need everyone to get vaccinated to help save lives and stop the spread of the virus so we can proceed with further reopening and finally put this crisis behind us.

Thank you for doing your part to fight COVID!

Celebrate Easter safely
Easter weekend is upon us and we know many are looking forward to celebrating the holiday with family or friends.

Much has changed since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, when Easter was the first impacted holiday. It introduced us to the concept of scaling down our celebrations to just our immediate households.

We’ve certainly come a long way since then, and things are looking up. But as much as we are done with coronavirus, it’s not done with us quite yet.

Thanks to the distribution of vaccines, and your hard work to fight COVID in everything you do, we’re pleased to say that holidays will look a little more familiar this year.

You may be able to see friends or family you missed last year, or have a small get together outdoors.

Anaheim parks are popular gathering spots for families to celebrate holidays, birthdays and special occasions. And they will remain open this weekend, as they always have been, but we want to make sure everyone enjoys their time here and stays safe while doing so.
A few reminders:
  • Keep your gathering to three households or less
  • Wear a face mask
  • Practice social distancing

And remember, tents or canopies bigger than 10 feet by 10 feet, bounce houses, generators and loud speakers aren’t allowed in parks.

During the pandemic, we’ve had to put park space reservations on hold due to restrictions on large gatherings, but we expect to resume those in the coming weeks.

Whether you’re celebrating Easter at home, a park, or restaurant, we must keep fighting COVID by washing our hands often, limiting our gatherings, celebrating outdoors and wearing a face mask. And yes, these are still good measures to take even if you’re fully vaccinated.

For more on vaccines, including CDC guidelines for fully vaccinated people, visit Anaheim.net/vaccines

We hope you have a great weekend and a memorable Easter celebration.
