Support Your Osher Institute
In our first fundraising effort since 2017, we have established two goals for 2022-2023: to raise $45,000 for the Osher Excellence Fund and to secure 50% of the Osher membership in giving. We are well on our way, but there is more work to do.

If you have already given to the Excellence Fund, thank you! (Be sure to get your gold star for your name badge at the Osher office.) The Osher Institute is financially a self-sustaining program with no university funding. Your support ensures high-quality programming now and into the future. Visit the Make a Gift page to donate. Thank you!
Welcome, New Members!
Welcome to all of our newest members! It’s been delightful meeting you as you come to classes. We hope you also will consider attending the monthly Casual Coffee Social Hour. (See article below for more information.)

As we continue to rebuild our Osher membership, we have a great incentive to current members. Refer a new member or members to the Osher Institute and we will provide YOU a waiver for one fee-based course of your choice, valid for either the Fall or Spring semester! (Limit one waiver for this promotion.)

Simply have the new member(s) mention that you invited them, or send us an email with their name, and we will notify you when they join. The Osher member who recruits the most new members by the end of May 2023 will receive a one-year membership to the Osher Institute for next year.

Please reach out to those you know who would enjoy our Institute. And remember, our classrooms are open for in-person classes!
Livestream/Recording Tech Tips
Do you have questions about how to access livestream programs or recordings? Here is a handy step-by-step guide.

  • Make sure you are connected to the internet.

  • Join the livestream webinar up to 10 minutes early to make sure you can get in.

  • Devices: We recommend viewing the Zoom livestream programs on either a laptop or desktop.

  • Browsers: We recommend using the Chrome browser. Safari does not always interface with Zoom on many smartphones and tablets.

  • For livestream and blended webinars, you will receive an email one week before, one hour before, and one day before the program begins. These emails contain the Zoom Webinar link. Multi-session courses will have a new link sent for each class session.

  • Questions must be submitted through the Q&A feature. You will not have access to your camera or microphone during the livestream.

  • All registered members will receive a complimentary link to the recording usually within two or three days following the program. Please do not share this link with others, as the programs are developed specifically for Osher members. If you would like to use a guest pass to share a program with a friend, contact the Osher office. We will be happy to send a guest link to the person of your choice.

  • Registration for livestream programs close seven days before the program begins.

Still have questions? Please contact the Osher office at (208) 426-6554 or osher@boisestate.edu.

Join Director Dana Thorp Patterson for monthly Casual Coffee Social Hours from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Yanke building, classroom 510.

Enjoy coffee and fresh-baked treats while you hear updates from the Osher Institute, learn about community news from guest speakers, and reconnect with Osher members and staff. Mark your calendars!

The next session will be held on Tuesday, October 11. Our special guest speakers will be Britt Udesen, Executive Director of City of Good, and Monique Smith, Executive Director of Learning Lab.
NRC Survey Coming Soon
Please watch your email inbox on October 3 to participate in the 2022 survey from the Osher National Resource Center (NRC). Every two years, we are asked to participate in the survey to collect data from members to help us make decisions for future programming. The Osher NRC survey also shows how we compare to other Osher Institutes around the country. Your input is valuable to us!

A Survey Summary will be available in early Spring of 2023 during a special Casual Coffee Social Hour. See the results and get answers to any questions you might have.
Thank You, Volunteers!
We are always grateful for all the ways our dedicated volunteers help us out throughout the semester. A big thank you goes out to the following Osher members:

  • Rainey Pieters for assisting with deliveries to the Campus Food Pantry.
  • Sharon Abramsohn, Jackie Agenbroad, Pam Brewer, Linda Butler, Bae Emilson, Cindy Eubank, Brent and Nancy Fricke, Dennis Hall, Larry Kidd, and Vicki Morrison for serving as greeters before the start of classes.

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the Volunteer Interest Form.
Campus Food Pantry
Thank you to all our members who donated to the Boise State Campus Food Pantry during September! You may drop off your nonperishable items in the Yanke building lobby bin anytime during office hours.

The theme for October is "Fall Harvest."

Here are some donation ideas:

Stove Top stuffing mix | Canned corn, beans, or peas | Polenta | Jarred gravy
Boxed butternut squash or pumpkin soups

Helpful tip: Donate cans that have pop tops, or include a can opener with your donation.

If you are interested in helping us drop off donations at the pantry, please fill out a Volunteer Interest Form. Delivery appointments will be scheduled based on donation flow. Our Administrative Assistant, Cherie Ellingson, will reach out to volunteers via email to fill the time slots that are available each month.
