Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library Hosts 29th Annual Faculty Author Recognition


NYMC faculty authors had another banner year with 1,100 publications including 892 journal publications, 130 abstracts, nine books and 69 book chapters published in 2021. The astounding number of publications were honored at the 29th Annual Faculty Author Celebration hosted by the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library. Pollinator Garden Named For Mary Ann Latona Nadler, For Her Instrumental Contributions


The NYMC community gathered for a ceremony on September 21, to name the pollinator garden outside of Sunshine Cottage as a tribute to Mary Ann Latona Nadler, who helped create the garden, and whose passion for native species and sustainability has impacted NYMC students and faculty alike. The ceremony featured the unveiling of a sign officially naming the garden “Mary Ann’s Garden.” Although Mrs. Nadler was unable to attend, her husband, Jerry L. Nadler, M.D., MACP, FAHA, FACE, right, dean of the SOM and professor of medicine and of pharmacology, expressed gratitude on her behalf. Read the full article and watch the video of the ceremony.

24th Annual Race for Rehab Raises More Than $6,200 for Achilles International


Students from NYMC’s D.P.T. Class of 2024 coordinated a successful Race for Rehab on campus on October 2. The 5K race welcomed in-person participants after two years of virtual running and raised more than $6,200 for Achilles International, a not-for-profit organization which provides a community of support to athletes with disabilities. D.P.T. students sold official race tee shirts, organized fundraisers at local restaurants and collected online donations to pass the impressive $6,000 mark. After crossing the finish line, participants enjoyed a a reception and an award ceremony for top finishers in different categories. View the photos from the race.

NYMC and TCDM Host Town Hall 


The NYMC and TCDM communities joined for the NYMC Town Hall led by Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer on September 29. College leadership covered various topics including 

NYMC’s new partnership with Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute, campus renovation plans, an update on campus health policies, admissions status, as well as new additions to faculty and the administration. Watch the full video of the Town Hall.

Luncheon Caps Celebration of Women in Medicine Month at NYMC


The celebration of Women in Medicine Month at NYMC closed with a special luncheon in the Blanche and Albert Willner, M.D. '43 Atrium Lobby on September 30. NYMC students and faculty enjoyed robust and engaged table discussions on a variety of topics affecting women’s careers, including balancing career and family, setting boundaries, priorities and goals and negotiating your worth. Read the full article on Women in Medicine Month.

Transformative Education Leadership Program Launched This Summer with Positive Results


The Transformative Education Leadership Program (TELP) launched its inaugural standardized patient encounters this summer to unanimously positive feedback from students, faculty and standardized patients. TELP was created by NYMC medical students, Lior Levy, right, and Redab Alnifaidy, members of the SOM Class of 2023, with the goal of building thoughtful, action-taking and anti-racist leaders and developing skills to address microaggressions. The program was chosen amongst highly competitive initiatives nationally to be supported by the 2021 Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society Medical Student Service Leadership Grant over a period of three years. The Office of eLearning Ensures Seamless Online Learning


The Office of eLearning has the critical job of developing and supporting online learning at NYMC. With the importance of eLearning dramatically emphasized since the onset COVID-19 pandemic, the Office has worked at its craft to consistently offer support to students and faculty with online courses and workshops among many other features. Donna Tartaglione Berger, assistant director of the Office of eLearning, provided an enhanced look at its operations.

ACCOLADES

City and State New York named Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A., dean of the School of Health Sciences and Practice and vice president of government affairs, to the 2022 Westchester Power 100 list.

Bess Chazhur, M.S., chief development officer and executive director of alumni relations, served on a panel on major gifts on September 21, presented by the Association of Development Officers, a growing network of fundraising professionals that offers educational workshops and seminars for those in the development field.

Savneek Singh Chugh, M.D., M.P.H. '21, associate professor of medicine, was honored by the Business Council of Westchester on September 20 as a member of its 2022 Class of Rising Stars, a diverse and highly talented group representing an impressive array of professions. The Rising Stars program is modeled after the national business recognition program “40 under 40” and honorees were chosen based on professional and/or entrepreneurial accomplishments, professional and/or business affiliations, and demonstrated leadership skills.

NYMC was among the 2022 Doctors of Distinction honored on September 22, by the Westchester and Fairfield County Business Journal. A Team Award for a group who is able to work together to find solutions in difficult and unique medical situations was presented to Health Services: Marisa A. Montecalvo, M.D., director of Health Services and professor of medicine; Katherine Kowalski, ANP, nurse practitioner; Rochelle G. Saks, M.P.A., administrator; Ruby Lantigua, secretary; Donna McKenna, ANP, per diem nurse practitioner; Christine Moronta, ANP, per diem nurse practitioner; and Rosemarie Raffa, FNP, per diem nurse practitioner. The Promise for the Future Award recognizing a medical student who excels in his or her studies and will contribute new ideas and fresh perspectives to the medical profession was presented to Redab Alnifaidy, SOM Class of 2023.
