Here's the dates and details of our
upcoming worship services and ministries from now until Christmas Eve.
50th Annual Live Nativity
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 23
5:30p-7:00pm
Drive Thru
This year marks AdventELC's 50th annual offering of the Live Nativity! Over the years our methods for presenting the good news to the community has been modified from time to time, but the message has always been the same, "Jesus is the reason for the season."
This year due to our sincere desire to keep everyone safe from COVID coupled with our sincere desire to share the good news of the Messiah's birth, we are making a change. We will be presenting the Christmas story in person via drive thru! There will be six stations of volunteers in costumes acting out different parts of the Christmas story. We will ask drivers to tune their car radios in to a specific frequency as we broadcast on a short wave FM transmitter members of AdventELC reading the Christmas story from Luke 2 with Christmas music as well.

Is it different? Yes! Is it faithful? Yes! Is it something that you will want to invited others to? Yes! Is it something we'll need volunteers for? Yes! We estimate that we will need a total of 48 volunteers over two, forty-five minute shifts. If you are interested in volunteering to be a actor or a traffic monitor, please email Matt Pittman at matpitt@yahoo.com for more information.

1st Sunday in Advent
Sunday, November 29, 10:30am
Online Only
Stir up your power, and come! The psalmist's plea in Psalm 80:2 has become familiar to us in the Advent prayers. Isaiah wants God to rip the heavens open. Both cry out for an apparently distant, angry God to show up, to save, to restore. When we hear Jesus describing the coming of the Son of Man with stars falling from heaven, it can sound dire and horrible, not like anything we would ever hope for. But when we really look at the suffering of people God loves, we can share the hope that God would tear open the heavens and come.
Sunday School
Sunday School has not stopped for our elementary children. Our Sunday School theme this year is Faith Stories. For the last two months, lessons have been adapted so parents can lead their children through the stories. This included a lesson plan, a video link, simple activities to do at home and if appropriate, a simple craft (materials included for the craft). These were sent home to the families. For the Advent season, packages of Advent and Christmas activities have been mailed. In January, the Faith stories will continue. This series is able to be taught at home or in person in our Sunday School classes when we meet again.
Operation Christmas Child
This endeavor, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse, is part of the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind. Operation Christmas Child uses gift-filled shoeboxes to share God’s love in a tangible way with needy children around the world. These shoeboxes are filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. The Social Concerns Team has collected filled shoeboxes at Advent for a number of years. Understandably, we will not be doing that this year. Instead, we are encouraging members to take advantage of a new option – building a shoebox online! Blue Christmas
Saturday, December 19, 7:00pm
In-Person only
Has 2020 left you feeling blue? Yes, blue as in the blues. As in "I am feeling blue." Not everyone is up and cheery for the Christmas holidays.
Dealing with the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with the loss of a job, living with cancer or some other disease that puts a question mark over the future, and a number of other human situations make parties and joviality painful for many people.

We at AdventELC care about you and want to give you a space and a place to feel and to bring your feelings to the very same God who meets us where we are at Christmas. This service is designed to be reflective, healing and hopeful.
Christmas Eve
Thursday December 24 $:30 and 7:00 pm
In-Person and Online
This year with COVID we are expecting that we will still be allowed to only have 50 people in attendance per worship service.

We want to accommodate as many as we can for those interested in coming for in-person worship for Christmas Eve. Please sign up early.
