APP welcomes NEC Corporation of America
The Association of Pacific Ports is pleased to welcome NEC Corporation of America (NEC) as its newest Associate Member. With over 120 years of technology leadership, NEC delivers one of the industry’s strongest and most innovative portfolios of communications, analytics, security, biometrics, digital transformation and infrastructure services and solutions. NEC Corporation of America is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NEC Corporation, a global technology leader headquartered in Tokyo, Japan with a presence in 160 countries and $29 billion in revenues.

“NEC has the ability to provide ports with new approaches in how communications and IT services are delivered and managed,” said Michael Mackesy, Manager, Network Connect. “We look forward to collaborating with APP members and lending our extensive experience to achieve more flexible, secure and responsive work environments.”

APP welcomes Trans Mountain
With the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Project (Expansion Project) now well underway, the West Coast marine terminal for the pipeline – Westridge Marine Terminal – is also making great progress toward completion and feels the time is right to join with ports around the Pacific Rim. “As our new terminal comes to fruition, we see great opportunities to expand our perspective beyond Burnaby/Vancouver and become part of the larger ports’ community,” said Bikramjit Kanjilal, Director of Burnaby and Westridge Terminals, Trans Mountain. “We look forward to learning about the best practices and the innovations of other jurisdictions and we are pleased to share our own experiences.” And given the nine-year process of the Expansion Project, Kanjilal and his team will have many insights that could prove useful for APP members.

House makes case for Congress to invest in Alaska’s infrastructure

May 14, 2021 — From Alaska Native News (by Joe Plesha) — The House of Representatives passed House Joint Resolution 19, which articulated the need for widespread infrastructure investment in the state of Alaska. The resolution was sponsored by the House Labor and Commerce Committee and identified the areas of need statewide and cited the work of Congress to construct a federal infrastructure package as a mechanism for investment. “It’s essential we help our congressional delegation make their case when fighting for our share of federal funding,” said Rep. Ivy Spohnholz (D-Anchorage), a co-chair of the committee that drafted the bill. “Federal investment helped build this state and Alaska can’t continue to fall behind when it comes to maintaining our infrastructure.”

Hualien Port Affairs Branch handles environmental cleaning and disinfection operations around the port area in response to bovine nodular rash

May 12, 2021 — Since the first case of bovine nodular rash broke out in New Taipei City, Taiwan in mid-April, 110, in order to maintain the environmental sanitation of Hualien Port, Hualien Port Affairs Branch carried out comprehensive disinfection work for passenger clearance service stations, administrative buildings, port areas and adjacent roads and ditches. To prevent blocking the transmission route of bovine nodular rash.

Since bovine nodular rash is a viral disease caused by a poxvirus, it is transmitted by vector mosquitoes (including mosquitoes, flies, ticks and other arthropods and scabs) and imported into the island from abroad. International ports are the first line of epidemic prevention. Therefore, the Hualien Port Branch Company carried out comprehensive cleaning and disinfection operations in the port area on April 19 and April 26, 110 in accordance with the relevant environmental cleaning operation guidelines of the Environmental Protection Agency.
