2022 Year in Review - Ontario By Bike

What a year! We've been keeping busy, working with you our tourism industry partners and certified bicycle friendly businesses, expanding our reach, growing our community of consumers, connecting with cyclists of all types. Tapping into the increasing number of cyclists, cycle tourists and visitors in and to Ontario we are pleased to share with you some of our accomplishments for the year.


REACHING & ENGAGING CYCLISTS

  • A banner year, our 10th annual Cycling in Ontario/Le vélo en Ontario increased to 56 pages, with strong early season distribution, we quickly ran low on print copies (See below for our 2023 marketing partnerships)
  • Our new website continued to perform well, remaining the go to trip planning source for cyclists 
  • Reconnected with thousands of cyclists at 4 busy events/shows
  • Posted 15 blogs, active in social media and popular monthly consumer e-newsletter sent March to October reaching over 16,000 subscribers
  • Hosted 150 cyclists on 4 Ontario By Bike Rides, weekend long tour events in destinations around Ontario


FOR OUR INDUSTRY PARTNERS & ONTARIO BY BIKE CERTIFIED BUSINESSES

  • 12 webinars hosted for 280 registered attendees in 2022, plus 2 in person workshops hosted for 45 attendees (and an upcoming November workshop/webinar series for Toronto)
  • 51 new businesses certified as bicycle friendly by Ontario By Bike to date in 2022, making total across Ontario – 1,620
  • Updated business listings to ensure all current, which included removing a number no longer operating, in destination renewal partner regions:  Sarnia Lambton; London; Brant/Brantford; Windsor/Essex; N.Hastings/Frontentac/L&A; Waterloo Region; Norfolk County; Prescott Russell; Ottawa
  • Expanded to new region Guelph and Wellington County, and expanding programming in Toronto, for a total of 42 participating regions across Ontario
  • 2 Ontario By Bike Industry Partnership Advisory Committee web conferences (2nd to be held in November)
  • Published sector research report: Ontario Cycle Tourism & Cycling Activity Report 2021/2022
  • Completed a number of consulting projects for destinations around Ontario

2023 Cycling Events - Free Listing

In 2022, we launched our new cycling events calendar webpage, one of the most visited on our site (OntarioByBike.ca/Events)This year we had 84 cycling events listed, and heard from cyclists that they do use this resource to find events they are interested in participating in at destinations around Ontario. Event participants often stay overnight, visit the area and local restaurants/cafes, many travelling with a larger group. 


If the cycling event in your area is not listed, there may be some missed opportunities! 


Spread the word, share with contacts, free event listings are available year round, so as soon as the 2023 event date is set, be sure to have the event organizers complete the simple form at the following link (also available direct from events page):

Make sure your information is up to date, your business description complete and that your website url and email contact address are correct. Upload pictures and a logo and check the location of your icon on the Ontario By Bike map


To find your listing, using the search form, search by category icon, your regional 'Great Places to Cycle' webpage or zoom into your location using the online map. To make any edits, login to your account and follow the instructions HERE. If you are having any difficulties with your listing, let us know and we will help you make any changes required.
