MAY 2021 NEWSLETTER

From Our President
Dear Council of 101 members,

I’d like to start by wishing you all a Happy New Year! It has been mentioned many times that the past year was a challenge like no other. We are in a new year for Council of 101 and I see shining roads ahead for all of us. It’s time to reconnect and spend time together.

Our Annual Spring Luncheon at the Country Club of Orlando was a reunion of members after a year of careful and cautious distancing. The attention to detail by our committee to create a fabulous menu made guests and members feel welcome. There was a sense of fellowship and friendship at every table beautifully adorned with spectacular floral displays. The luncheon gift of wine glasses sponsored by the new museum director were so perfect for the year with “everything in modification” engraved as a reminder of pivots made during the year.

We said goodbye to the out-going Board of Directors who ventured into uncharted territory to find successful fundraising techniques. We installed the incoming Board of Directors that will take the newly learned “modifications” and co-mingle them with the traditional 101 ways. We welcomed the new Actives from the 2020 Provisional class and the 2019 Provisional group that did not have the opportunity to be introduced when they were voted into active status during the pandemic. The new Provisional class was welcomed and I see much potential in this accomplished group of women. Congratulations to our new Actives and Provisionals!

The presentation of the annual gift to the Orlando Museum of Art is one of the most exciting items on the spring luncheon agenda. Aaron De Groft, Director and CEO, stood with our Treasurer, Beth Baker and Board of Trustees President, Cynthia Brumback to present the message of thankfulness for the collective efforts in receipt of our $300,000 gift. As Council of 101 members you should be proud! This represents a level of creativity that was discovered with fewer volunteers, limited numbers of guests and an emphasis on sponsorships and in-kind donations from many of you. Thank you all for your dedication.

As I look to our new year, I feel a sense of excitement that we can hurdle any challenge that may cross our path. We are closer to the Museum than ever with the new Director pledging his support and the support of his staff to assist in our efforts.  We have two major fundraising events to plan and execute this year and the time to start is now. Our first Festival of Trees Chairmen's meeting is in a few weeks. We'll meet the FOT management team and committee chairs and learn details about this year's theme which will center around Sparkling Holiday Traditions. Then we will be off and running! If you haven't been contacted to lead or join a committee, you will be soon, so start thinking about what you would enjoy doing.

I look forward to a year of renewed friendships and good health. We will have more opportunities to be together and get to know each other again as well as to embrace our new Provisional members and Actives with our 101 gracious hospitality. Membership in Council of 101 has made a huge impact on my life and my hope is that you will find your membership equally as rewarding.

I hope to see you at our next General meeting on Thursday, May 27!

Warm regards,
Joan

Let's Talk - Who Do You Know ?
The Council 101 membership should be very proud of all its accomplishments this past year. To do what was done during a pandemic was spectacular and was only achieved through the hard work of our membership, generosity of our sponsors and support of the community.

As we begin to plan for a new year, now is a perfect time to introduce new sponsors to OMA and Council 101. It is our individual connections to the community that continue to make our fundraisers for the OMA a success.

I would love to hear from you! Email me, call me, text me – Let’s talk about who you know, and together we can determine the best approach in recruiting new supports and sponsors.

Whether you are unsure what the “right” sponsorship fit might be, or would like me to contact a potential sponsor on your behalf, do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Let’s leave Covid and the pandemic in our dust and plan for another successful Council of 101 fundraising year!

Thank You!
