HOMECOMING PARADE ROUTE

HOMECOMING PARADE | FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7 | 4:15 p.m. Staging, 4:45 p.m. Start

Due to Oktoberfest happening in downtown Lake Geneva, we can not run the normal HoCo parade route. The city has graciously let us still host the HoCo Parade, but it is more similar to the Winter Parade, but not exactly the same. The parade will stage on Marshall Street, but run straight south down Williams St./Broad Street (Williams becomes Broad). Then turn right onto Wisconsin Street with the parade ending at Central-Denison Elementary School. You will see the route in yellow on the map, but part is crossed off indicating our route must follow the hand drawn arrows. We will NOT be heading into the downtown area, unfortunately, due to Oktoberfest traffic and closures.

Parade Route

Jostens will be here on Wednesday, October 19th to meet with seniors regarding graduation orders. This meeting is for students only and will take place during the school day. Jostens will return on Wednesday, October 26th during lunches to take senior orders. Jostens will also be at Badger from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. on October 26th for parents and seniors to place orders.

Principal's Note

What a great start to the school year! Our freshmen are comfortable with their schedules and are getting involved in clubs, sports, and other activities. Our Theater is rocking with rehearsals for the fall musical, Big Fish. Let’s keep the energy going well into the fall - please continue to attend events at Badger to support our Badger community.

I wanted to update you on procedural changes made to our Tardy Policy this year. We all know the importance of attendance - “you must be present to win” - is not just for winning the grand prize at a raffle event, it is important for daily living. Please know that students at Badger have 6 minutes of passing time between classes. This is more than enough time to walk from one far end of our building to the other. As their parent/guardian, you will receive a call or email from your student’s teacher if they are tardy two times to a class period. This is a crucial step in the process, giving the student, teacher/staff member, and home the opportunity to work together to solve the problem. If the behavior continues, then detentions may be the consequence. We thank you for your assistance in helping instill punctuality and courtesy as we navigate the halls and classrooms together at Badger.

October is a month of much student activity. With teens on the roadways heading home from school activities at various times, please take a moment to discuss safe driving with your teen. Consider this - 4.6 seconds is the time texting takes your eyes off the road. At 55 MPH this is like driving the length of a football field blindfolded. A good tip before starting your car is to set the automatic response on your phone to let people know you are driving and will get back to them once you stop. For more information on distracted driving check out this link on distracted driving - but not while you are driving.

I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming events at Badger. Thank you for supporting your student and the Badger Community.

PSAT

Badger High School is administering the PSAT test to 80 junior or sophomore students who want to take it on Wednesday, October 12th, from 7:45 – 12:00 at Badger. The PSAT is a great way to prepare for college as it measures reading, writing, language, and math skills in a format similar to the ACT and SAT tests. This test also provides the opportunity for students to compete for recognition and scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Program.

To sign up for the test, students must bring in an $18.00 check made payable to Badger High School and give it to Mrs. Ingersoll in the Counseling Center.

The deadline to register for the PSAT test is this Friday, October 7th. We cannot take any late registrations, so ensure that students turn in their check immediately, so they do not miss this opportunity.

If you have any questions, please contact the Counseling Center.

WEF College Fair

The Wisconsin Education Fair (WEF) will take place on October 4th at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wl. We will be leaving Badger at 8:00 a.m. and returning around 11:00 a.m. There will be 100+ colleges to gain information about during this time. To sign up and get a field trip permission slip, please stop by the Counseling Center.

College Representatives

Watch for information on when college representatives will be at Badger to meet with students. Many schools will be scheduling visits with us throughout the fall. The library also has virtual reality tours for many out-of-state schools.

Transcripts

Students needing to send transcripts anywhere need to use www.parchment.com. The account is free to set up, and two copies can be sent for free. The cost is $7.00 for each additional copy. If a paper copy is needed for any reason, please contact Mrs. Ingersoll in the counseling office.

ACT scores

Colleges that request ACT scores can be sent through www.act.org. If an account is not already set up, students will need to create an account to send scores. Many colleges will not accept paper copies or emailed copies. They will need to be sent directly from ACT.

Worker's Permits

If you need a Worker's Permit, you'll need to bring the following to Mrs. Ingersoll in the Counseling Center: your Social Security card, $10 cash, and a letter from the employer stating that you will be working. If Mrs. Ingersoll is unavailable, you can get a worker's permit from the city hall in Lake Geneva.
