Dear Hart Families,

I don't about you, but I am ready for the weather to make up it's mind! I'm excited to share that we have worked out a way to have an in-person book fair. See the details below. We are working on plans for some of our end-of-year events. Stay tuned for more details!

As you know, a large portion of funding for public schools in Texas revolves around having students in attendance each day. This year it is more important than ever to maintain our enrollment numbers. Lovejoy ISD has recently learned that the State will provide “Hold Harmless” funding to schools who maintain a certain percentage of daily attendance. While we anticipate being above the threshold the State is requiring, I wanted to remind you how important it is for students to be in school each day aside from the instances that are beyond their control (i.e. sickness).

BOOK FAIR IS COMING!

Hart Spring Book Fair: April 12th -16th

The Spring Book Fair is almost here! Students will be able to shop the fair in person! They will not be able to browse and touch all of the books as they usually would. Students will let the staff know which books they would like to purchase and the books will be pulled for them. This is a cashless fair. Parents, you will need to set your students up with an eWallet account through Scholastic. Please visit scholastic.com/fair to set up your eWallet. When the eWallet account has been set up we will receive an email notification. The name and amount will be added to a spreadsheet that the librarians will be able to access. Another way to purchase books starting April 4th is to simply order from the Scholastic website. Your books will be shipped directly to your home.

VIRTUAL STUDENTS: The fair will be open for you to come shop from 3:30 virtual students to come and shop.

Color My World!

Wednesday, March 31 is National Crayon Day. We invite you to dress from head to toe in your favorite color on March 31.

Students were read a biography in class about the Crayola Crayon inventor, The Crayon Man by Natasha Biebow. Students then created a piece of broken crayon artwork for our Crayola gallery in the hallway! Check out some of our creations!  

NEW!!! Notes from Nurse Wright
Attention to all Virtual 1st grade, 3rd grade, and new student parents:

We are trying determine the best way to go about getting our state mandated hearing and vision screenings completed for our virtual students. I will be connecting soon about a date that we are able to get these done and still have coverage for the clinic on campus.

If your student has had a recent (with in the past year) vision or hearing exam, please email it to me at allison_wright@lovejoyisd.net and your student will be exempt this year from on campus screenings. A snapshot with your phone of the results works just fine as long as the information is legible.

NEW!!! HES Lost and Found Boutique
Beginning this Friday, March 26th from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., the HES Boutique will be moved outside to the front entrance of Hart. I have gone through all the items and checked for names. Items with names have been returned to their owners. The boutique will be out front every Friday from 8-2 until the end of the school year, weather permitting. Items will still be available for students to look through Monday-Thursday. Please let me know if you have any questions!

We still have a needs for some photos for the yearbook. We are looking for pictures of our kiddos reading to their pets or siblings as well as any outside activities. Outside activities can be anything from team pictures, dance, theater, gymnastics, etc. Please remember to add the name and grade of everyone in the pictures. PTO SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION AVAILABLE
 
The Parent-Teacher Organizations in the Lovejoy Independent School District each will award one $500 scholarship to a college-bound senior graduating from Lovejoy High School in 2021. This centralized application means that each student completes the form ONCE, but is eligible for PTO scholarships through the Lovejoy schools they attended (plus the Lovejoy Council and Preschool PTO).
All student applicants (a) must have attended LHS during their sophomore, junior, and senior years; (b) belong to the LHS Parent-Teacher-Student Organization; (c) complete the online scholarship application, including the essays; (d) upload a resume; and (e) have one letters of recommendation submitted.
To begin the application process, students must complete a brief survey, located online at 2020-21 Scholarship INTENT TO APPLY. This survey, which requests their name and email address, indicates their intent to apply.

Once the above Intent to Apply survey is received, we will send the student a link to the online scholarship application. This link will allow students exit and return to the application in case they cannot complete it in one sitting.
 
THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS MIDNIGHT FRIDAY APRIL 23, 2021.
