On Finding Place: Migration.

Happy Tuesday to all! Starting today, we will have our Brookside store open from 10 am to 5 pm. Our Wednesday through Saturday hours also shift earlier to 10 am openings. Sunday hours will stay the same at 12 noon to 5 pm and we'll still be closed on Mondays to refresh and deep clean the store.

This is another small pivot as we "change and emerge" in new ways during these very unpredictable times. It's how we are gently and thoughtfully shifting our "celebration of the creativity of human mind, spirit and experience" as we "find our place" in this new reality.

Come along with us as we explore "migration"

Kei & Molly: Embracing Migration
"Migrate: to go from one country, region, or place to another." *

What feels like a LONG time ago - way back on April 23 - we "traveled" to Albuquerque to visit Kei & Molly Textiles to
KMO KeiAndMolly
learn about their unique vision of embracing migration. Kei Tsuzuki and Molly Luethie started their business in 2010 specifically to serve as an economic engine for their culturally diverse area, providing work, skills, and support for immigrants and refugees looking to build a better life for themselves and their families.  Through Kei & Molly Textiles, the women they hire  find a secure job

paying good wages and opportunities for personal development and leadership.
In late April they had just closed their business due to the pandemic but we promised we would "return" for a visit.

Kei & Molly have now re-opened their workshop and are again producing their incredibly soft flour
KMO Migration DT
sack dish towels printed with whimsical, folk-art-style designs. The two friends collaborate on their designs taken from everyday life - people cooking or gardening or hiking; or nature images of bees, flocks of birds or a tree of life. Often they include uplifting messages and sometimes gentle protest, drawing the buyers in through a sense of story-telling and personal connection.

The inspiring story of Kei & Molly textiles is best told in their own words.

Being immigrants themselves, Kei and Molly have built a vibrant business around embracing those who have newly migrated from places around the world, celebrating their journeys and learning from each other.

Butterflies: A Yearly Migration Begins
"Migrate: to pass periodically from one region or climate to another, as certain birds, fishes, and animals."*

MonarchsInMexico
The festival begins in the glass-walled Martha Jane Phillips Starr Butterfly Conservatory, which will have more than a 1,000 butterflies and moths flying among tropical plants that are native to the natural habitats of these pollinators. Visitors can witness metamorphosis from chrysalis to butterfly and cocoon to moth as each takes flight for the first time.

Their "Seed to Plate" greenhouse has been transformed into a facsimile of the Monarch butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Michoacan, Mexico, where approximately 200 million butterflies cover the trees, creating a captivating landscape of fluttering wings. See this amazing site in the video below:

"Ojo de Dios": A Migration of Healing, Protection and Blessing
"Migrate: to shift, as from one system, mode of operation, or enterprise to another."*

Last week some colorful "Ojo de Dios"
or God's eyes showed up in the trees outside World's Window. Their "migration" into our trees is also a story of migration from disharmony to harmony.  Because I had seen Facebook posts tagged with #ojodedioskc, I already knew about this new effort to "migrate" the messages and challenges of our confusing, rapidly changing world right now. These women artist/friends are spreading visual messages of peace woven into colorful God's eyes.

In their words: "We are diverse, women artists. We are Grandmothers, Mothers, Sisters, and Comadres. Inspired by the rich Huichol culture, we seek to protect, heal, and bless the community with Ojo de Dios that we've created and placed throughout KC."

You're invited to join in the efforts to spread protection, healing and blessings.  Make your own and then share them around. These women artists would love for you to add your pictures of Ojo de Dios to social media and tag them with #ojodedioskc

Perhaps one positive outcome from this pandemic has been a time of earth healing and regeneration as we humans are not having as significant impact on our environment as in recent years. Perhaps also in the limitations of our own "migrations" due to physical distancing, we are a bit more in tune with the rhythms of natural world around us and how migration is a necessity for continued existence. May this new awareness bring "protection, healing and blessings."

Our store is open today as we start new shopping hours on Tuesdays, and we will be open Wednesday through Sunday for the hours listed below. We still invite you to try your own personal shopping time if that feels safer. (see details below) Add a friend if you'd like and come enjoy World's Window. Just give us a call to schedule your special time.

For those of you who cannot or choose not to shop in our Brookside store right now, we thank you for your continued online shopping support.

Thanks for continuing on this new journey with us. We look forward to sharing fun stories with you, new products and diversions as we travel "from here to there and everywhere."

And I can't say it enough times - YOU are an important part of what makes World's Window so special! THANK YOU!
