Regatta Updates

Apologies, but a few dates have been changed/updated.

Please double check your calendar and let Coach know if you cannot attend any of these regattas.

10/2 Head of the Christina - Christina River, Wilmington DE

10/16 Navy Day - Schuylkill River, Philadelphia PA

(Date changed from 10/15 to 10/16 due to a conflict with the city of Philadelphia.)

Currently no families have volunteered to host the hospitality tent for this Regatta. If you are interested, let John or Robin know. We can also skip the tent for this one and go all out on the 29th

10/30 Head of the Schuylkill - Schuylkill River, Philadelphia PA

(Was previously listed as 10/29 however, it is a two day Regatta and

Colleges have been scheduled for the 29th and high schools for the 30th.)

Several families signed up for hospitality for this Regatta, however since then the date moved Saturday to Sunday. If you signed up and can not longer host,

please let Robin know ASAP.

11/13 Braxton - Mercer Lake - Princeton NJ

Head of the Christina - Sunday, Oct. 2

The Head of the Christina Regatta takes place on the Christina River in Wilmington, Delaware out of the Wilmington Youth Rowing Association (WYRA) boathouse. There are great viewing options all along the river walk, but team tents/grilling is not allowed. They will be selling packaged snacks but no hot food so you should pack a lunch.

There is ample parking along the Riverwalk area. See photo below...

Please visit the REGATTA WEBSITE for more info.

Also, keep an eye on the weather and check the website before you head out. It looks to be quite rainy.

King's Head Regatta Results

Results

Alex Avgerinos completed was his first race in a the Mens Ltwt 1x. Though he did not medal (this time), he put in a solid effort and placed 5th. A good first race!

Jessica Vance and Maya Moore also were first timers competing in the Womens JV 2x and finished 11th out of 13. Great effort!

Maya jumped out of the double and into the Womens 4x to compete alongside Claire Nardi, Eleanor Lee, Siena Bevilacqua. Even with Maya in back to back races, they finished 7th out of 11 and all of it through a heavy downpour and rough water - very commendable!

Jay Singh (Coxswain), Corey Zimmerman, Carter Bickell, Justin Jarrett, and Sam Malandrucco raced in the JV 4+ and finished 10th out of 12. Nice work!

King's Head Volunteers/Fundraiser

Special thanks to grill master Evan Avgerinos for working the grill and MJ Malandrucco for supplying Walking Tacos and homemade cookies! Other great helpers were: Jacqueline Moore, Joe Bevilacqua, the Vances, Lynn Altemose, and the Nardis. (I apologize if I missed anyone). After our costs, we profited $650 which is fantastic. Although clean-up was a soggy mess, I really appreciate those that stayed to help load the trailer. On Monday, John and I were both off so we cleaned and dried everything off so we're ready for the next one :)

BLUE JEAN BALL UPDATE

The Blue Jean Ball November date has fallen through due to a scheduling conflict with our venue (The Phelps School) and the committee has decided that it would be best to move the date to late-January. We hope to have a solid date nailed down soon. Look for an email soon asking for help with our biggest fundraising event.

We definitely need more helps o if you would like to join the committee, please email Robin (gvcrewm@gmail.com) to get on the mailing list for our Zoom meetings.

Hospitality Donation

Please donate if you can...

We are asking each family to donate $20 to help cover the cost of food for the hospitality tent. Last year we enjoyed hot breakfast sandwiches, fajitas, burgers, etc...at regattas thanks to families who donated food items. This year with one family in charge we believe this fee will help simplify the menu shopping and preparation.

You can VENMO Jenny Bevilacqua @Jennifer-AtkinsonBevilacqua or give cash or check to Siena at practice.

Special Announcement
As a Great Valley Community Organization sport, we get support from GVCO; however, many of the crew specific tasks are overseen by crew families.

We (John and Robin Brewer) have been taking the lead on those tasks for a few years and find ourselves without a rower registering this season. Veronica has graduated and is off to row with La Salle University and Buddy has decided to sit out this season.

We would like to start mentoring the next family/families to help run the crew program. Our plan is to run the program this Fall while mentoring new folks and to also help out in the Spring as needed. Fall 2023 will be the first season where we need new leadership to takeover completely, though we will always be available to answer questions.

PLEASE, especially if your rower is going to be a 9th, 10th, or 11th grader, consider volunteering to keep this crew growing and moving forward. It is our plan to pass down all of our expertise/knowledge as well as documents, email accounts, etc...to make the transition as smooth as possible.

If you would like to learn more about how you can become more involved, please reach out to John or I at your earliest convenience.

Winter Basketball

GVBL Winter Rec League

Registration for GVBL Winter Rec League is now open. This will be our 22nd year of bringing the GV community this outstanding youth basketball program.

Once again due to the limited amount of gym space, the GVBL Winter Rec League will be open to ONLY GVSD residents with limited spots per division. GVBL will once again offer divisions for girls and boys in grades 1-8 and a boys HS division. Skills Assessments will begin 10/17.

During the season, there will be a one hour weeknight practice and a one hour game on the weekend. Games and practices will be held at a location within GVSD boundaries. During registration, we allow parents to choose one day a week that will NOT work for practice in order to allow some flexibility in scheduling other activities.

The Junior Hoopsters program for 4-5 year olds will open in late October.
