Lake Deaton Happenings

A Message from Pastor Kristyne
This last week has been wonderful! Last Thursday, while many of you were reading last weeks Lake Deaton Happenings I was heading north with husband to our little cabin in southwest Georgia. We were thankful to have some time away, some time to rest, renew and refocus. I believe that inside we often feel like we can just go and go and go, but we are made to rest as well as go. I hope that all of you are carving out weekly time to rest, but also larger chunks of time to rest, even if it is just a stay-cation. A time to eat food that just yummy, a time to do things that fill your bucket, a time to take long afternoon naps, a time to take walks to nowhere, a time to have long conversations about anything but COVID or politics.

Now, I am all rested and ready to go, ready to head into the fall and I am excited. Excited for the challenges that stand before us. God created us to be creative and now is a time for creativity. What will Grow Night Classes look like this fall? What will Ladies Luncheons look like? How about Men's outings? What about all the special things we do at the church in the fall? Truck or Treat? Songs and S'mores? Advent? Christmas Eve! All great opportunities for us to get creative. And opportunities for us to try new things. I am excited to wrap up this summer and to move joyfully into whatever fall brings. Join me as we continue to grow together!

Blessings,
Prayer and Care Ministry
Our Care and Prayer team would like to introduce Rev. Kris Schonewolf. Kris is an ordained elder currently appointed as a pastor to the Lowell Correctional Center in Ocala, but she also attends our Lake Deaton congregation. In that capacity, Kris is involved in prayers for healing and restoration. Our Care volunteers often will offer to have Kris call you and pray on the phone with you. Most who have experienced this can testify that it is a powerful and life changing experience.
We believe that meeting the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of our church and neighbors is what showing the love of Christ is all about. We have volunteers devoted to the care of persons, including ministries of prayer, meals, and member connection. If you are facing a challenge, have a prayer request, or want to serve as a volunteer, please let us know. In case of a death of a loved one or a hospitalization, let us know so a Care Minister can support you through this time.

For Prayer and Care Ministries needs, please email  Denise Herzberg  by clicking  here.
Prayer Concerns:
Vannakay Hurnevich, Marissa Carnevale,
Tom and Mary Jo Lewellen, Dan Ruiter, Jay & Betty Schmidt’s Aunt Carol, Norm & Harle Phelps, Lori and son Casey.

Our sympathy, love and prayers go to:
Vicki Johnston, family and friends on the passing of her husband David Stone Johnston, who went to be with the Lord on August 1st.

Couch Talk
Each week the pastors and sometimes staff members record a segment called couch talk. Couch talk is full of useful announcements for the coming weeks. We hope you take a moment each week to watch.

Our couch talk is always linked on our  Facebook  page & our  YouTube  page.
Outreach
Christmas in July

Empowering children and families to experience the transforming love of Christ through wholistic care.

Thanks be to God and to the members of Lake Deaton UMC for their generosity in support of our Christmas in July outreach to support the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home located near Enterprise, Florida. Over 75 gifts were given in our online project totaling $1294!
Through your efforts, Lake Deaton helped stock the store at the Home which offers items the children can ‘purchase’ through the points they have accumulated in reward for their good and benevolent behavior. This has proven to be a great behavior modification program.

Jesus said, “When you did it to the least of them, you did it unto me!”

Membership Questions?

Were you a member of New Covenant United Methodist Church, Lake Deaton Campus before the launch and haven't transferred you membership yet? If the answer is yes, all you need to do is call the church office and ask to speak to Phyllis. She can help you transfer your membership in just a few minutes.

If you are a member of another congregation and wish to join Lake Deaton UMC please visit our website and sign up for one of our upcoming Coffee with the Pastors classes.
Help Update our Database!

If you did not get a chance to fill out a Data Transfer Form before July 1, that is okay. However, we still need to populate our database with your information. Please help us to be able to care for you and stay connected with you by filling out our Congregant Information Card. Again, if you already filled out a Data Transfer Form you do not need to fill out this card. But if you did not fill out the Transfer Form please take a few minutes to fill out the card and send it to us or drop it off at the church office.
Worship

In-Person Worship Update

This weekend we will continue offering hybrid worship. We encourage you to worship in the way that best meets your own personal needs. For most people this means that you will worship at home. You can tune into our LIVE services on Facebook, YouTube or on our website. Click here to discover where to watch our LIVE services on our website.

If your preference is to attend in-person worship, please make sure you read our phase one document. After reading and agreeing to the entire document you should register for weekend services. Registration opens each week on Monday and remains open until the service is full. To register please click the website button below.
Worship Attendance

Each week we calculate our online attendance from three sources: YouTube, Facebook and our Website. We also make a physical count at our in-person services.

Sat, Aug 1, 5pm - Online 64, In-person 27
Sun, Aug 2, 9am - Online 180, In-Person 35
Sun, Aug 2, 10:30am - Online 70, In-Person 30
Weekend Totals - Online 315, In-Person 92, In All Total 406

We also appreciate your cooperation in "signing" the online "connection pad" at www.lakedeatonumc.com/here. "Signing" the "connection pad" on the weekend is helpful because it helps us to better connect and care for you. It is also helping us to update our database. It is even easier to "sign-in" if you use our app. To download the app you can visit our website and click either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store OR you can just search in the app store for Church by MinistryOne. The app is a white cross on a purple field. After downloading search in the MinistryOne App for Lake Deaton UMC. If you have issues call the church office for assistance.
Recreation
Hey, Golfers!

Tired of losing your ball on the golf course? Then come and join us for an evening of Night Golf! Your ball will ‘glow in the dark’ and be easy to find! If interested in joining us on September 11 at Escambia, please contact Donna Baker at DonnaAPN@comcast.net or at 302-260-0808. We’d love to have you ‘link up’ with us!
We Miss Seeing You!

We have had a fun time the last three weeks driving around The Villages and seeing where everyone lives. However, we have also learned a few things. The number one thing we learned is just how BIG The Villages really is and how long it is going to take us to see everyone. After much discernment we have decided we need to change our approach to be good stewards of our time and resources.

So, what does that mean? Well, we are taking a week to regroup and will roll out a brand new "We Miss Seeing You!" connection plan next week! We have some really exciting and creative ideas planned and cannot wait to share them with you. Stay tuned!
Volunteers Needed

Front Office
We are still in need of volunteers for the reception area! Volunteers answer the phone, forward calls, greet guest to the church and do light office tasks.

We have four openings: Wednesday Mornings, Friday Mornings, Monday Mornings from 10-1 (April-Aug only, as we have a seasonal volunteer who does Sept-Mar) OR Monday Afternoons from 1-4.
Please call the church office if you have questions or to volunteer.

Ushers and Greeters
Remember how you were greeted and welcomed when you first came to Lake Deaton? Now, we need YOUR help! Ushers and Greeters are needed at our Saturday 5pm service and our Sunday 10:30 service.

Some of the ushers and greeters primary duties include welcoming people as they enter the worship space and directing people to seats. Volunteers usually arrive 30 minutes prior to their assigned service. If you are interested in volunteering or want to know more contact Stan Hoover.
