A COVID Update
As of this writing, COVID infections, driven primarily by the omicron variant, are continuing to rise in Burnet County, central Texas, and throughout the country. Hospitalizations are also rising, leading Travis County to return to Stage 5 Risk Level. We continue to monitor and respond to these developments with caution, but not panic. I have been very grateful for the patience and good humor shown by the members of this church, as we have made seemingly constant changes to our worship and other events here at Trinity.

For now we are continuing in-person worship, with the side doors to the nave open, but without singing. We have also suspended Adult Christian Education, and moved Children’s Chapel back to ZOOM. We remain hopeful that we will be able to relax these restrictions soon.

We are continuing the policy of optional masking at Trinity. For those who choose to wear masks, you can find excellent information on the different mask types, and the effectiveness of each, here: LINK. We are making KN95 masks available in the narthex for those who wish to wear them.

We also continue to strongly encourage vaccination, which is by far the most effective tool available to us against COVID. Current data indicates that protection against the omicron variant is considerably enhanced by receiving a booster dose, so I encourage you to do so, to protect yourself and your loved ones.

I know this has been a painful and exhausting time for all of you, and that many of you have lost much. We are all mentally and emotionally exhausted after 2 very stressful years battling a pandemic that is not yet done with us. It is also important to note that we have made considerable progress in this long struggle, and we have great hope for better days ahead. Thank you for your continued flexibility and support during this challenging time, and, always, please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. Keep the faith, folks, and know that God continues to accompany us in this difficult journey.

Blessings, Dave.
A Prayer for Epiphany
Jesus, you are the light of the world:
May your light open our eyes to see those in need.
Jesus, you are the light of the world:
May the works of our lives demonstrate your love.
Jesus, you are the light of the world:
May your wisdom enlighten our decisions.
Jesus, you are the light of the world,
hear the prayers of our hearts:

Here, the people may add particular intercessions or thanksgivings.

As you enlighten our lives,
May we be light for others.

Womens Bible/Book Study
On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, our women's group begins a new study of Amy Jill Levine's Sermon on the Mount: A Beginner's Guide to the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 5-7 is a series of Jesus's most profund and memorable teachings. We will ask what they would have meant to his disciples, how do they enhance how we read Matthew's gospel, and how do they speak to us today across the centuries. Are they, as many have said, a road map to living as God would have us live? Please join us on February 1, 2022 at noon in the multipurpose room of the main building as we begin this study. Please read the introduction and first chapter on the beatitudes. We will be meeting every first and third Tuesday of each month: Feb. 1 and 15th from noon to 1:30PM. See you soon. Sally Anderson

THANK YOU to all who participated, attended and/or tuned-in to our 12th Annual Giving Fair event held in December 2021. When we look back at this annual event does it inform Trinity parishioners and is it worth these organizations’ time to participate? Let us hear what they said: Kim at Camp Agape said she got a volunteer who wants to be involved with their summer camp and that was golden; Erica from HCCAC wanted to post the presentation video on their Facebook page; Dori from Opportunities was excited to meet the other organizations and get connected as she is new to her role; Sam from The Helping Center continues to get lots of contributions from Trinity parishioners as well as volunteers so is thankful to participate yearly; Paula from Open Door is very thankful for our donations and Trinity staying connected with them; Robert from HIS Joshua House is also so thankful to the community and Trinity for the increased support; Kim and Katherine from HLFCC were glad to be a part of our event and thankful to Trinity for continued support; Billy with UHLNC is always awed to be connected with the other organizations and appreciates Trinity’s support as well as the opportunity to create a wider awareness of the benefits for children to heal through nature; Brenda from CWJC appreciates the awareness this brings to their group and how they also help some of the women that come to them through Open Door and HLFCC; Phoenix Center also feels the importance of staying involved with several of these organizations as many of them serve some of the same children; Diane with CASA is so amazed at the number of volunteers that have come from Trinity over the years and thankful for their involvement. We hope that these groups will continue to be on our parishioners’ gift lists and receive donations and/or volunteers. Please revisit the Giving Fair 2021 at Youtube and listen to these twelve organizations’ brief presentations on their work in this community!

Annual Parish Meeting
Our Annual Parish Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 23rd. On that day we will have a single worship service at 10:00, followed by the Parish Meeting. At this meeting we will elect our new vestry members, thank our outgoing members, approve the 2022 budget, and hear about plans for the coming year. Both the 10:00 worship service and the Parish Meeting will be livestreamed on our Youtube page. The meeting will be followed by a luncheon in celebration of Nan Kennedy as she moves into retirement. Increasing COVID numbers may oblige us to make changes to this planned schedule, so please stay tuned.

New Vestry Members
I am delighted to announce our slate of candidates to begin vestry terms in 2022. Once again, the Nominating Committee (made up of the outgoing vestry members, Anne Stefan, Mardi Cockerham, and Joe Hull) has raised up a very gifted and faithful group of leaders. A brief bio for each person is below. This slate will be approved by voice acclamation at our Annual Parish Meeting on January 23rd. I am so grateful to Anne, Mardi, and Joe for their service on the vestry and for identifying such great new members, and I am so grateful to John, Greg, and Nannette for their willingness to serve.

John Loftis
I graduated from the University of Texas in 1966 with a degree in Petroleum Land Management and spent the next twenty seven years in oil and gas exploration. My wife, Nancy, and I raised our two sons in Houston, TX where we belonged to St Martins and subsequently, Christ Church Cathedral. In 1993 we left Houston to retire in Durango, CO.

After four years of retirement, we purchased a winter guest ranch in Wickenburg, AZ, and spent the next ten years managing the ranch during the fall and winter and were able to summer in Durango. We sold our ranch in 2007, purchased a lot in The Trails of Horseshoe Bay, an equestrian community, and built our present home in 2009. For the next several years, we split the year between Durango and Horseshoe Bay. As of October, 2021, we happily live full time in Horseshoe Bay with our two horses, dog and cat.

I am in my fourth year in the Education for Ministry program at Trinity and feel blessed to have had the opportunity to expand my Christian knowledge base.

Greg Soechting
I am a native Texan, born in San Marcos, to a Southern Baptist family. My maternal grandfather was a primitive Baptist preacher and could find reason to preach on nearly any subject or event, usually at every family gathering. This provided a fundamental, evangelical approach to my early life in the Christian faith. In 1983, I started attending St. David’s Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas. I thoroughly enjoyed and was enlightened by the liturgical service. To this very day, I remain surprised and delighted as to how quickly any Episcopal service begins and ends! I have proudly served as a Delegate to Council, twice, for the West Texas Diocese.

I started a business in Austin, Texas, in 1978, distributing electronic office equipment across the state of Texas. The business grew to 300 employees. In 1991, I sold the business and retired.

My wife, Kim, is also an Episcopalian, and we will be celebrating 30 years of marriage this year. Our son Geoff, a cradle Episcopalian, and his wife Gracie, are expecting their first child, and our first grandchild, in April.

I enjoy morning prayers, golf, travels to West Texas, reading, and time with Kim.

Nannette Watkins
My husband Bob and I retired to Marble Falls in 2012 after living in Houston for 10 years. I was raised in the Catholic faith, but had not been an active participant for many years. Once we were settled in this area, we began searching for a church. The overwhelming welcome we received from the Trinity family convinced us that this is where we were meant to be. We were confirmed in September, 2013. I began my active involvement at Trinity as a member of the Parish Life Commission and then served as its Chairperson for several years. I am a member of the DOK and am a graduate of the EFM program. I presently serve as an Usher at the 10:30 service and am a member of the Ministry & Outreach Commission. I Iook forward to being a fully committed member of your Vestry.
