Hurricane Ian Tests Our Community's Resilience

Now that the dust is starting to settle…it is time to reflect on the many selfless acts witnessed during the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. The storm has provided us with an opportunity to remember what this community is all about…neighbor helping neighbor. Punta Gorda Awarded by America in Bloom

Top honors for the prestigious 2022 America in Bloom National Awards Program were announced at the annual symposium and awards celebration held in St. Louis, September 29-October 1. An ironic coincidence given the arrival of Hurricane Ian in our city.

Punta Gorda was the all around top winner in the 14,000 - 18,000 population category. All participants were evaluated on seven criteria: community vitality, overall impression, environmental efforts, heritage celebration, urban forestry, landscaped areas, and flowers.

History Park Community Garden Weathers the Storm

The Punta Gorda History Park Community Garden was in great shape prior to the arrival of Hurricane Ian. The garden plots were ready for planting, thanks to help from CJ Lawn Maintenance, Mike Trzandel and Steve Catalino. When the storm roared through on September 28, the garden took a huge hit.
