Out and About in the Community & Beyond

The Alberti Center team has officially returned to in-person events, but continue to offer virtual options as well. These are just some of the events and presentations we have provided over the past few months:

Registration dates are now available through December, 2022. The course is offered fully online in two parts. As of January, 2022, Part One has been asynchronous, while Part Two is synchronous with "live" interactive instruction. Feedback from recent participants:

I feel that I learned helpful information on how to implement DASA training through given videos, scenarios, and feedback from Dr. Allen. I feel confident in handling any situations that involve bullying or harassment.

I feel much more prepared to deal with issues of bullying in the classroom, and I now have more knowledge on how to address concerns.
2022 Alberti Center Annual Conference

Register now to attend the Alberti Center Annual Conference scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Classics V Banquet Center (2425 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst). A continental breakfast and buffet-style lunch are included with admission. The conference is also being offered via Zoom webinar for virtual attendees. The theme for 2022 is Centering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) to Promote Positive School Culture and Student Well-being. Our presenting sponsor of the annual conference this year is embraceWNY!

Dr. Janine Jones, professor of School Psychology and associate dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Washington will present the keynote titled Psychological Well-being: Fostering Resilience Among Students of Color. An afternoon panel of speakers will include Drs. Darren Brown-Hall (superintendent of Williamsville School District), Lura Lunkenheimer (president & CEO of Peaceful Schools), Tonja Williams (superintendent of Buffalo City Schools), and Chantele Thompson (chief diversity officer for the City of Buffalo).

2022-2023 Colloquium Series
Dr. Ann Farrell, associate professor at Brock University and 2021 Alberti Center Early Career Award recipient, kicked off our 22-23 Colloquium Series with a presentation addressing A Complex Understanding of Bullying Perpetration: The Role of Individual, Social, and Environmental Factors. A recording of this presentation is now available on our website.

The next presentation in our series, Safe Space Training for Educators, provided by Growing LGBTQ+ Youth Support (GLYS) of Western New York, is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15, from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. on the University at Buffalo's North Campus. More details for this event, sponsored by embraceWNY will be announced soon on our website!
Video Resource Spotlight
October is National Bullying Prevention Month! This video, produced by PACER, provides ideas of how you can participate in raising awareness of bullying prevention. You can find this video along with other resources for parents, students, and educators on our YouTube channel as well as in the Resources section of our website.

2022 Early Career Award recipient

Congratulations to Rachel C. Garthe, PhD, on being selected as our 2022 Early Career Award recipient! The Alberti Center Distinguished Scholarly Contributions to Bullying Abuse Prevention Award, presented annually, recognizes an individual who has made exemplary scholarly contributions to the field of bullying abuse prevention and conducted research that has the potential to influence practice and policy.

Dr. Garthe received a plaque and $1,000.00 in recognition of her achievements. Learn more about her research on our award page.
