Legislation aims at doubling federal Gas Tax fund  

The Government of Canada has stated its intention to top-up the federal Gas Tax Fund allocation provided to BC and other provinces and territories for 2021. Contingent upon the passing of Bill C-25, local governments would see funding allocations effectively double for the current year. The proposed funding would deliver $2.2 billion across Canada to address short-term infrastructure priorities in local government and First Nation communities. Read more
Professional Governance Act webinar for local government

A webinar for local governments on new legislation for professional governance will be held on April 7th. The Professional Governance Act (PGA) came into force on February 5th. The Act replaces the individual statutes of regulatory bodies that govern engineers and geoscientists, applied science technology professionals, applied biology professionals, foresters, and agrologists. Rates for electric vehicle fast charging service

BC Hydro has applied to the BC Utilities Commission (BCUC) regarding proposed rates for interim and permanent electric vehicle fast charging service. The BCUC has announced a regulatory timetable for conducting a proceeding to hear from parties who wish to provide feedback on the rates. Read more
Province extends regional pilot program for 3 years

The Province has announced the extension of the BC Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Entrepreneur Immigration (EI) Regional Pilot until March 31, 2024. The EI Regional Pilot was introduced in March 2019 to support economic growth in smaller regional centres, and is an innovative collaboration between communities and the provincial government. Scholarships support local government staff

Local government staff can receive funding for tuition and travel costs when taking courses. The Board of Examiners’ Scholarship Programs offer tuition and travel assistance to local government employees taking courses that lead to certification from the Board.  Read more
