As Cape May continues a phased reopening plan, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of health and cleanliness to ensure the safety of our guests, our staff, and ourselves. Dinner Reservations
And if you already have reservations for your summer getaway, it's not too early to start making dinner plans! Currently, restaurants in Cape May are only able to offer outdoor seating. The al fresco dining experience has been well-received by our guests, but seating is very limited. As a result, it will likely be very challenging to get a last-minute dinner reservation when you're in town. So let us help you plan your dinners ahead of time. Just give us a call at 609-884-8380 or send us an email at info@missioninn.net to request assistance and we will work with you to make sure that your dining plans are in place before you arrive. You can also check out a list of updated restaurant information to see who is offering outside seating around town.
Photo of the Month
Earlier this month, Cape May celebrated an Olde Fashioned Fourth of July . As part of the holiday festivities, the city held a decorating contest to help everyone get into the red, white, and blue spirit. To do our part, we put together a virtual fireworks display that took first prize in the business category! To see a one minute video clip of this patriotic nighttime experience, click here .

What's that Plant?
As guests walk around the inn and look at our beautiful gardens, one of the most common questions that we get asked is "What's that plant?" If you've ever taken a walk and wondered what a plant or flower is called, we have an app for you! We recently discovered the "Picture This" app that let's you take a photo of any plant to easily identify it and see detailed gardening tips about it. With more than 1,000,000 plants in their database and 98% accuracy, we felt it was much better than other similar plant identification apps. You can download a 7 day free trial to test it out, and a one-year subscription costs $29.99.
The Mission Inn on WCBS880
Ear lier this month, The Mission Inn was featured on WCBS 880 Small Business Spotlight. Click here to listen to this interview with radio host Joe Connolly. The first 10 minutes focuses on this unique summer season in Cape May and The Mission Inn's efforts to safely welcome guests back to the nation's oldest seaside resort.
Guest Photo of the Month
Longtime guests Bruce and Sharon E. from Mullica Hill, NJ visited us in June and enjoyed some socially distanced walks in the South Cape May Nature Preserve during their stay. That's where Bruce got some amazing photos of one of our local swans and three of her new babies in tow. Do you know what a baby swan is called? Scroll down to the bottom of this newsletter to see the answer!
Wanted: Your Bottle Caps
Before we were forced to close for three months, we had asked for your bottle caps. We are still collecting these to be used for making recycled plastic benches. It takes approximately 500 pounds (that's about 100,000 bottle caps!) to make a standard bench. So before you head to Cape May this summer, make sure you pack something extra in your suitcase - your used bottle caps. And if you live nearby, you can leave a bag or box full of used caps on our front porch anytime.
Remember, every cap used to make a bench is one less cap in the landfill. Help us make a difference one cap at a time! We will be taking cap donations all year long.
Things to do in Cape May This Summer
This summer is going to look a little different when it comes to events and activities. But as things continue to reopen in Cape May and around the state of New Jersey, some of our favorite things to do are returning on a limited basis. So we will have resumed our daily list of things to do in town. Look for this at breakfast every morning.

And during our quarantine time in Cape May, we discovered some new activities that we think you might enjoy while avoiding crowds and practicing social distancing this summer. Click here to read our "Top 10" ideas for your next visit:
Cape May Inn -Sider Tip:
Cape May is a very walkable and bike-friendly town. Many of our guests enjoy parking their car when they arrive and never using it again until they head home! We are just a block and a half from the beginning of the promenade, which means you can easily walk along the ocean and into town. We also offer complimentary bikes for our guests to use during their stay with us. But if you want to catch a ride into town for dinner, there are two local golf cart taxi services that operate during the summer season. Consider using one of them on your next visit. They are both running daily and the rides are free - we just ask that you tip the drivers!
Question: What do you call a baby swan?
Answer: They are called cygnets until they are a year old.
