SKIP OPENS NOVEMBER 7

Once we get that day with the first chill in the air, people start thinking about Fall. And thinking about Fall brings us to SKIP. So, volunteers, get ready! SKIP will be opening its doors for lunch service on Monday, November 7. We are happy to say that Chef Gina will be back with us this year (woo hoo!)

Guest service will be from 12:30 - 1:30 PM. Volunteer schedule times will remain the same as last year: 9:30 - 11:30 for the first (prep & cooking shift) and 11:45 - 2:00 for the second shift (serve and clean up.) You will be getting an email or a call in October about setting up your schedule.

We are all getting excited to get started. The SKIP Board of Directors would like to thank you in advance for your service and for all the energy you bring and the hard work you put in. We are looking forward to another year of helping those who need us. And as we always say, and it’s the truth: we couldn’t do it without you!

Don’t forget: SKIP Orientation on Tuesday, November 1st @ 11:00 at PUMC

See you soon!

VOLUNTEER EVENT A BIG SUCCESS

On Wednesday, September 14, around 50 SKIP volunteers gathered at Herring Cove Beach for an end-of-summer party. The weather was perfect (all the better since the original date of September 13 was rained out!).  Far Land Provisions catered a delicious meal and we set up at the Herring Cove beach pavilion. Board members served dinner to our volunteers: pulled pork sandwiches, veggie burgers, corn, baked beans, kale salad, potato salad, and amazingly delicious brownies. Volunteers enjoyed catching up with each other and a good time was had by all. Everyone is looking forward to SKIP’s opening in November.

REMEMBRANCE

Judy Kelley passed away on September 25.  Judy was a SKIP volunteer for several years. She worked the first shift each Friday where her wonderful sense of humor made prepping and cooking with her so much fun. She also made and brought in delicious desserts to share with her fellow volunteers. She moved to Texas some years ago with her son Todd Dever who operated a gift store, Forbidden Fruit, on Commercial Street. Judy asked that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association to help end this terrible disease as soon as possible.
