For the Napa Cabernet lovers out there I have some really exciting news for you!!

Now in Ontario we have a new Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Duckhorn Wine Company.....Postmark!

Just as a postmark captures a time and place on a letter, Duckhorn's newest Cabernet Sauvignon captures the terroir of Napa Valley in the outstanding 2018 vintage.

You're likely familiar with Duckhorn "Decoy", which the winery calls "everyday wine for the well informed", or you may enjoy the flagship Napa Valley bottlings, with that iconic, timeless label.  These have been in the finest restaurants and wine shops since the late 1970's.

Duckhorn is one of Napa Valley's premier wineries and largest land-holders.  The fruit for this vintage comes from hillside and valley floor vineyards from partner viticulturists in St. Helena, Atlas Peak, Rutherford, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Stag's Leap District.

Two-thousand eighteen was a nearly perfect vintage in Napa - long and cool with no noticeable heat issues or storms.  In fact for some winemakers, this was the latest harvest of their careers.  Late harvests means there's been  slow development of phenolics, acids and sugar, which produces incredibly balanced fruit.

It is comprised of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot.  Merlot provides body, Petit Verdot provides tannin, and all three together produce a harmonious and full-bodied wine.  It aged for 12 months in 100% French oak, 40% of which was new.

"From its deep crimson colour to its velvety texture and alluring layers of fresh blackberry, boysenberry and cassis, you can taste the warm Napa Valley sun in this luxurious Cabernet. On the palate, hints of violet, lavender and dark chocolate add to the delicious depth of this wine, with a pleasing touch of acidity bringing brightness and poise to a lush fruit-driven finish."
