The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you.
Deuteronomy 31:8

This Memorial Day weekend we remember all those who have lost their lives for our freedom – I am forever grateful. We take our freedom for granted so often and forget to stop and remember those families who sacrificed so much.
One of the blessings of Memorial Day is that we DO celebrate our freedom in fun and exciting ways. Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer. Barbeque smoke will fill the air along with the sounds of children playing in parks and jumping into the freshly-filled swimming pools.

If you go to the pool, any pool, in any town, you will see a familiar sight. A young child on the edge of the water terrified to jump in. In front of them will be a smiling mom or dad bobbing in the waves with arms outstretched encouraging their little swimmer to jump. I remember long ago my son walking out of the locker room, shaking in fear, telling me, “Dad, you go first.” And I did. And my shaking son jumped.

Our Lord goes first too. We read in Deuteronomy how Moses encouraged God’s people and their new leader, Joshua. He assured them that the LORD Himself, through Joshua, was going before them and leading them into the promised land. Just an FYI, Joshua is Hebrew for Jesus (wink).

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you;
He will never leave you or forsake you.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Deuteronomy 31:8

Our Lord goes before us into the unknown as a father goes into the swimming pool. We look at Him and realize the same thing the child does. If it is ok with my daddy, it will be ok for me. The best part is that no matter what, I am with my daddy who will protect me and keep me safe.

Maybe today you are feeling terrified of the unknown waters ahead of you, not knowing how deep they are or how cold they will be. Maybe you are worried you will drown. May I give you some advice? This Monday, go to the pool.

Join us Sunday as we begin our new sermon series BIGGER Plans.

Austin
The Grace Fellowship Love Fund is dedicated to helping those in our congregation and the community in their moment of need. Over the past year, several families and individuals in our congregation and in the community lost jobs, housing, or both. We were able to assist them in their hour of need in small but much needed ways. The love fund is accessed at Pastor Austin and the Church Board’s discretion to allow for confidentiality to protect families and their privacy. These past 14 months more than ever, the Love Fund has been a blessing to hurting people. Praise God for that!

At this time, the love fund is in need of replenishment so that we as God’s hands and feet might continue to serve those who need it most. Please prayerfully consider donating to the Love Fund. Thank you!
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
