TV SHOW

Anthony Bourdain, in my heart and memories, always and forever. The loss of this incredible human will always stick with me, despite my not knowing him personally. He goes to the most amazing of places, many more "obscure" or "off the beaten path" type locations to experience the culture and especially the food and cooking styles that are prevalent wherever he is, generally with a myriad of local guides along the way. He is always hilarious, always blunt, often borderline crass, so honest, and so himself. This show thankfully has a ton of seasons and episodes, and they're all fantastic, so prepare for some wanderlust and to be on the lookout for specialty food places you may not have otherwise noticed.

BOOK
AMERICA'S TEST KITCHEN KIDS

THE COMPLETE COOKBOOK FOR YOUNG CHEFS from America's Test Kitchen has everything we love from ATK written in an appealing and approachable way for kids! We have had our 7yo son pick out a new recipe each week and watching his confidence and understanding grow as he reads, measures and cooks is delightful.

The book is nicely illustrated with photos and information about techniques explained in a kid-friendly fashion. I even learned a thing or two!

This week was Sesame Noodles with Snow Peas and Carrots. His reaction upon tasting it was "Can I eat this for breakfast, too?"

Reader, we said yes.

BOOK
LINDSAY MAITLAND HUNT

Well, I love science and this book has both the education aspect and delicious recipes down. She takes the time to educate you but it's not a fixed or stringent diet book. This cookbook focuses on how to make mindful choices to fuel your body.

MOVIE

A giant, glossy chocolate frosted chocolate cake. Who could resist? Not Bruce Bogtrotter, titular Matilda's classmate, and I will never forget the moment Brucey Bogtrotter finished the whole thing. While but a singular moment in the movie, I loved the feeling this movie gave me as a child. That we have power to make change possible. That we are smart. That we can make things happen with a little bit of magic or in solidarity. Matilda is a fantastic, funny, and moving movie about an appreciation of literature and finding power, love, and family in unexpected places, and of course there's chocolate cake.

DEB PERELMAN

I've been following Deb Perelman's blog (smittenkitchen.com) for over a decade, and have made dozens of her recipes. The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook is full of delicious recipes you'll want to make again and again - I especially recommend the Apple Cider Caramels.
