Pumpkin Spice Peril by Jenn McKinlay

FANTASY/ SCIENCE FICTION MOVIE

Even though I first watched this movie as an adult there is something very nostalgic and cozy about it. It is a little bit spooky, a little bit cute, and has amazing artistry behind the stop motion.

This book is the sequel to the very popular Olive Kitteridge. I just really love Elizabeth Strout's writing. I had never read Olive Kitteridge when I read this, so I wasn't sure if I would appreciate it, but indeed I loved it. Similar to the original (which I read shortly after), the book consists of many interesting short stories of people living in small town Crosbie, Maine that interact with Olive in one way or another. Strout has a way of bringing characters to life in just a few pages and making the reader invested in their lives. Just a great book to curl up with tea and read by the fire.

MINI SERIES & GRAPHIC NOVEL
Patrick McHale

"Over the Garden Wall" by Patrick McHale is an excellent animated mini series that originally aired on Cartoon Network. Both the show and the accompanying graphic novel are great for a fall treat! The story follows Wirt and his younger half-brother Greg (as well as a collection of other kooky characters) as they make their way through the mysterious world of the Unknown. The show is made even more delightful by the vocal talents of Elijah Wood, Christopher Lloyd, John Cleese, Tim Curry, and more! While it was made for children, it really is great for all ages! (And that's a Rock Fact!)

BOOK
Jenn McKinlay

"Pumpkin Spice Peril" by Jenn McKinlay is perfect for fall and a great addition to the cupcake bakery mystery series. I first discovered this series when I was in 8th grade. I remember bringing one of the books to school and my teacher smiled when she saw the cover. She thought it was funny that I was reading them at such a young age! This book specifically follows the story of the bakery and its pumpkin spice cupcake recipe. The plot takes a turn when a member of the community drops dead, and the last thing that they ate was a pumpkin spice cupcake from the bakery! I especially love this series because the books always have a good dessert recipe at the end. Nothing is better than a pumpkin spice recipe after reading a fall themed book!

TV SHOW

With the new season of Succession coming out in October, I have to mention this great show. It follows a fictional family's power struggles that are vaguely based off the Murdoch family. You will probably end up hating everyone, but that is part of the fun of it.

COMEDY MOVIE

There's nothing like Nora Ephron's perfect romantic comedy, When Harry Met Sally. Harry Burns and Sally Albright meet twice before becoming friends. The film follows their lives as they navigate dating and friendship in New York City. With New York in the Fall, Carrie Fisher, and some of the most famous movie lines in history (I'll have what she's having!), make this movie a must see.
