NIH R34 on PrEP and Black SMM Awarded to Dr. DeMarc Hickson
|
Please join us in congratulating Us Helping Us Executive Director and DC CFAR Community Partnership Council (CPC) member and SGM SIG Co-lead Dr. DeMarc Hickson who was recently awarded an R34 from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) entitled " PrEP Initiation and Adherence among Black SMM: A Social Network-Level Intervention". This study aims to design a pilot social networking strategy intervention to increase PrEP initiation among Black sexual minority men (SMM). Dr. Hickson is also the inaugural DC CFAR recipient of the MACC Scholars Award, his work focused on examining optimal behavioral economic strategies that promote long-term PrEP adherence among Black MSM in the region

The title of his presentation is "Peripheral emancipation: Platelet tour de force".

Join the DC CFAR Sexual and Gender Minorities SIG Inaugural Meeting
|
Please join the CFAR Sexual and Gender Minorities SIG (SGM SIG) led by David Huebner, DeMarc Hickson, and Christian Morris Tuesday, January 18th from 12 to 1:30 pm for our Kick-Off meeting. The primary goal of this first meeting is to bring together community members and academic researchers interested in or currently working in the SGM field to identify shared areas of interest. During the Zoom meeting we plan to:
introduce our new leadership team, discuss the goals of the SGM SIG, and hold small group breakout sessions.

The Basic Sciences Core would appreciate your participation in this year's membership survey. The purpose of this survey is to solicit your feedback on our Core programming and services in order to identify needs, determine future activities, and make funding decisions. The National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) is recruiting for their Leadership Fellows program which provides mid-career physicians dedicated to improving Hispanic health with weekly executive leadership training sessions and a week-long trip to Washington, D.C., with travel and lodging expenses covered. Applications are due January 31.
The HIV League seeks to identify and award scholarships to the most promising students living with HIV/AIDS as evidenced by their educational accomplishments, leadership, and service. Applications are due January 31.
The Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB) released three notices of funding opportunities (NOFOs) related to HIV and aging. Applications for the three NOFOs are due January 25.
