There are an estimated 20,000 koalas left in New South Wales. (Supplied: Bev Millican)
A new project is aiming to tackle climate change and help save koalas at the same time. Landowners in New South Wales can earn carbon credits by planting koala habitat on their properties. The cost of the trees is covered, as is maintenance for the first three years.
Got room for a ‘koala resort’ on your property?

Farmers in the region have never had so much trouble getting machines on their fields. (Supplied: Rob McLelland)
Farmers are facing unprecedented levels of bogged machinery as rain lashes central parts of New South Wales, leaving soils waterlogged. The death of a young farmer in Grenfell in the state's central west in one such situation earlier this year has given new impetus to the issue.
An important safety reminder for those of you in the same situation. Please take care – and don’t take unnecessary risks.

Drones are now measuring and mapping how much water avocado trees lose. (ABC Rural: Kallee Buchanan)
While you might measure how sweaty you are by the size of your pit stains, for avocado growers understanding how much water their trees are losing on a hot day can be a little harder to quantify. But a trial of drone technology in Bundaberg, Queensland, is hoping to change that by mapping how much water orchards lose (or transpire, as it's known in plants).

Bardee founders Phoebe Gardner and Alex Arnold
Ag-tech start-up Bardee is about to take a bigger bite of Australia’s food waste recycling market after gaining certification by the Australian Clean Energy Regulator to secure carbon credits from its insect-based organic fertiliser and protein products.
An interesting read, particularly for those looking for alternative organic fertilisers.

AIOA entries: professional product shots now available | |
Entry of the AIOA now comes with yet another benefit – the opportunity to purchase the professional product images taken for the official AIOA Results Booklet.
Recognising that good product shots are hard to achieve for the average grower, and it’s expensive to have them taken professionally, the AIOA team is making the official AIOA product images available to entrants at a minimal cost, to assist with marketing and promotion of your products.
Each is a stock shot with a white background, making them incredibly versatile for promotional use on your website, Facebook page or Instagram feed, or provided to media. The artwork is provided in a high-resolution format, so is also suitable for hard print like magazines and brochures.
The cost is $35 (+ GST) per product shot and they can be ordered online here, along with medal decals.
Don’t miss the opportunity to present your products in a professional light!

Putting Marlborough on the olive oil map, from left, John Cragg, Mandy Oyston, Janine Mayson and Chris Piper. Anthony Phelps/Stuff.
It’s not just wine that wins medals, you know. Olive oil does too. And in a region where there’s little room for commercial olives against the ever-profitable grapes, Marlborough does alright on both fronts.
Marlborough olive oil producers this month won three gold medals and one silver at the 2022 New Zealand Extra Virgin Olive Oil Awards. Only four oils were entered, meaning they all got a medal.
