Take Action for Education Equity
Election 2020
Dear Partners,

There are many ways you can take action to increase educational equity. Participating in an election is a big one and this November you will have the opportunity to make a difference on both ballot measures and candidates.

As noted in the Partnership’s Antiracist Framework - “Transformative change leading to racial equity requires empowering all three ways of addressing racism - Individual, Institutional, and Systemic”
  • Individually - Educate yourself about Propositions (15 & 16) and School Board candidates.
  • Institutionally - Educate your community by using The Education Trust-West tool kits and posting the Partnership’s Equity Statement on your website.
  • Systemically - Create systemic change through equity-based public policy. Affirmative action (Proposition 16) and funding for education (Proposition 15) are both on the ballot.

Here are three ways you can start, THIS WEEK, to take action:
Join us on September 28, 4-5PM to learn about the education equity ballot measures up for a vote in this November election. In partnership with Canal Alliance and Education Trust-West, we will be hosting a webinar to share out information and review the equity-centered initiatives which include reinstating affirmative action (Proposition 16) and increasing school funding (Proposition 15).

Learn more about the tools and resources needed to help you vote, conduct voter education, and get out the vote.
Marin Promise Partnership is once again an outreach sponsor for the Marin League of Women Voters’ School Board Candidate Forums and will serve as host of the MCOE candidate forum on 10/23. Events start THIS WEEK and go through October 23rd.
  • TAM Union High School District - Wed 9/23
  • San Rafael City School District - Thu 9/24
  • Reed Union School District - Wed 9/30
  • Sausalito-Marin City School District - Tue 10/6
  • Novato Unified School District - Tue 10/13
  • College of Marin Trustees - Wed 10/14
  • Marin County Office of Education Trustees - Fri 10/23 (12:30pm Hosted by MPP)
Forums will be live streamed and the public is encouraged to submit candidate questions before and during the events. We especially encourage Partners to submit questions that focus on educational equity and antiracism.

Canal Alliance is also hosting a School Board candidate forum focused on issues impacting the Latino community in San Rafael.

Wednesday September 23, 6pm
San Rafael School Board candidates Samantha Ramirez (Area 1), Gina Daly (Area 1), Linda Jackson (Area 3) and Marina Palma (Area 5)
It will take a commitment from each of us to ensure California schools and colleges are truly more equitable for the generations of students to come. We hope to have you join us in this effort by attending at least one of the events above.

In solidarity,
The Backbone Team
