Well-being is more than just eating right and exercising. It’s a holistic approach that includes your physical health, mental health and social health – your body, mind and community.
Here in the Beach Cities, we focus on all aspects of health by being kind to our body, mind and community, but now more than ever, we must focus on being kind to our community.
Our feelings of anger, stress and worry from recent events may be compounded by COVID-19, isolation and uncertainty during this time. As we move forward on the path to healing together, we must practice even more empathy, compassion, respect and kindness.

- Gyms and fitness facilities

AdventurePlex and Center for Health & Fitness
BCHD’s AdventurePlex and Center for Health & Fitness facilities
will remain temporarily closed until further notice. While the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is allowing fitness facilities to reopen starting June 12, we are moving slowly and cautiously to ensure we have the necessary protective safeguards in place for the health and well-being of our staff and members. We are taking extra precautions to protect the most vulnerable members of our community as well as our neighbors at Silverado.
We are currently working to put safeguards in place, training our staff on the infection control protocols required by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, and seeking your feedback on virtual programming and comfortability with returning to our facilities.
During this time, we continue to offer virtual programming for both facilities, including workouts and other activities and encourage you to stay active and well. The links are available at:
As soon as we have a reopening date will will communicate with our members. A survey will also be going out to members tomorrow. We are looking forward to welcoming you back to the Center for Health & Fitness and AdventurePlex.
While Los Angeles County is quickly moving through the roadmap to recovery, older adults and those with serious underlying health conditions are still encouraged to remain home as much as possible.

What to do if you have been in a crowded setting
Whether at the beach, in the mall or at a peaceful protest, if anyone has been in a crowded setting where people are congregating who are not using face coverings or distancing, or if you had close contact (within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes) with non-household members who were not wearing face coverings please consider the following:
Remain in your residence, away from others, in self-quarantine for 14 days
If you live with persons who are elderly or have high-risk conditions, you should:
- Maintain at least a 6 ft. distance and wear a face covering when you are with them at home
- Avoid preparing food for others
- Avoid sharing utensils, bedding and towels
- Increase cleaning and disinfecting of common surfaces
Consider getting tested for COVID-19 if you have been exposed to someone that is positive or likely positive
- If the test result is negative, they should remain at home for 14 days to prevent spreading illness to others

#BeachResponsibly
LA County beaches are open for active recreation only including surfing, swimming, walking, running and biking.
Remember to practice physical distancing by staying at least 6 feet apart from others
and
wear your cloth face covering when you are out of the water and around others.
|
|
We Can All Be Health Leaders
In addition to physical distancing and wearing cloth face coverings when we are around others,
we all still need to take the same precautions that we were taking earlier on in the pandemic
- wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands and self-isolate if you are sick. These actions combined are the best defense against COVID-19.
