The Office of Global Activities (OGA) is dedicated to connecting MSW students to international social work opportunities through   funding special programs , academic resources, internationalized curriculum, and  arranging faculty and student exchanges   at partner institutions.
U-M SSW Statements for International Students
The University of Michigan School of Social Work has provided a statement of support for its international students amid the U.S. government issuing new guidance for international students regarding online courses and the fall semester. 

SSW is working closely with the U-M International Center, and with the immigration advisor assigned to the School of Social Work, to discuss the implications for our students.

Virtual Events
Time: Thursday, July 9, 1-2 PM
Brief Description: The length of Peace Corps Service can be intimidating. The thought of committing 2 years of your life to service in another part of the world can be scary. Yet, 2 years of service is important and necessary to be an impactful volunteer and to develop meaningful relationships with the community you serve. During this virtual session, you will hear from returned Peace Corps Volunteers about their concerns of the time commitment prior to departure.

Brief Description: This conference will include live plenary sessions, live panel session on the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development, workshops, posters´ exhibition, book presentations, areas, and  free registration   fees.
Time: Wednesday, July 22, 2-3 PM
Brief Description: This workshop is designed for international students, scholars, faculty, and staff who are interested in learning how to obtain permanent residency (a “green card”) based on marriage to a U.S. citizen. U.S. citizen fiances and significant others are also welcome and encouraged to attend this event.
Time: Thursday, July 23, 12-1 PM
Brief Description: The International Student Lunch Conversation is going virtual this summer! This is a casual time and space for international students to connect with each other and talk about life as an international student in the U.S. and at U-M. Don’t forget to bring your lunch!

Brief Description: The Association for the Study of Ethnicity and Nationalism (ASEN) is looking for a Coordinator.The principal role of the Coordinator is to ensure the smooth functioning of ASEN: managing its membership and communications activities, overseeing the running of its highly regarded annual conference, seminar series and podcast, and supporting the voluntary members of the ASEN Steering Committee in their roles.
Emergency Funding
The new COVID-19 Emergency Funding Application is now available. Students can apply for support to address unexpected COVID-19-related costs such as medical expenses, travel costs, or computing/technology expenses required to study remotely. A FAQ page about this funding can be found by clicking the link above, under "As a U-M student, where can I request emergency funds?".
Please contact the SSW Office of Student Services ( [email protected] ) if you are in financial hardship due to COVID-19. OSS staff will assist you to find funding to support you.
If you are facing financial hardship due to COVID-19 or any other unforeseen situation, the Dean of Students Office stands ready to assist you. Students must contact the Dean of Students Office by phone (734-764-7420) or email ([email protected]).
CEW+ is able to offer small emergency grants to current U-M Ann Arbor graduate students. These grants are for unexpected financial emergencies that threaten to derail degree progress including funding issues that are a result of COVID-19.

"On Monday, ICE made that adjustment, reinstating a requirement that at least some education take place in person for a visa to be granted.

In a statement, ICE said: "Students attending schools operating entirely online may not take a full online course load and remain in the United States."

The new rule confronted international students with a difficult choice: "depart the country or take other measures, such as transferring to a school with in-person instruction" to avoid legal consequences, including deportation.

Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology filed a  lawsuit  against the rule on Wednesday... "
